The Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston seeks **a Museum Assistant - Tours** with excellent customer service skills to assist Museum staff with community outreach programs, tour guide and communications throughout the busy summer season. The Museum Assistant will be exposed to a variety of activities that keep a museum working in both “front of the house” and “back of the house” operations. This position is a great opportunity to work in a friendly, creative and collaborative work environment while developing education programs, communications and leadership skills. The Museum’s mission is to inspire an enduring connection to the maritime heritage of Kingston and the Great Lakes. This is a full-time summer position at $15.50/hour for at least 16 weeks starting Monday May 1st, 2023.

**Key areas of responsibility**:

- Give interpretive tours of the National Historic Site to enhance visitor experience, track visitor feedback and attendance, and enforce any COVID-19 protocols that may be required to maintain a safe environment.
- Oversee Museum’s front desk and greet visitors to the Museum.
- Assist the Programs and Communications Manager in the development and delivery of public program activities throughout the summer to youth and the general public.
- Assist in the management of social media and digital media communications, helping to increase and maintain current activity on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- Other responsibilities may include inventory and organizing archival materials and artefacts to improve accessibility of the collections for research.

**Qualifications**:
**Preferred Qualifications and Skills**:

- Must be eligible for funding under the terms of the Canada Summer Jobs/Young Canada Works.
- Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with youth and adults.
- Enrolled in a Museum Studies, History of Education program and seeks hands-on experience in a cultural heritage museum environment and/or career in the education or heritage sector. Knowledge of Indigenous history and culture, environmental science or history is an asset.
- Experience in developing and delivering guided tours, educational programs and engaging with the public virtually and/or in-person.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Excel and Word; graphic design experience is an asset.
- Experience with social media page management and marketing is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
- Ability to work independently or with a small team in a public environment.
- Must be willing to work weekends throughout the summer, including Labour Day weekend.
- Must have driver’s license.
- Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
