Tool and Die Apprentice 4th Year

Operate a Milling machine to produce a precise part(squaring blocks from raw Materials)
- Operate a drill machine to produce a precise part
- Operate a grinding machine to produce a precise part
- Sanding and polishing
- Builds basic tooling
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints
- Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments
- Working along side a senior Toolmaker
- Plans and performs machine set ups and operations to produce a variety of tool, die and fixture parts
- Set ups exacting, but not necessarily difficult
- Builds basic tooling with supervision
- Performs preventative maintenance on toolroom equipment
- Performs general housekeeping
- Performs other basic operations relating to department.
- Registered with the Ministry of Skills & Development (Education & Training)
- 6000-8000 hours experience required
- Should be able to build and repair uncomplicated dies
- Must be able to work well with supervisors instructions
- Must have knowledge of the Health & Safety Act
**Skills**:
- Proficient in lathe operation for turning operations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics accurately
- Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software for designing tooling components
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers for quality control purposes
- Ability to assemble and fabricate parts to create or repair dies, jigs, gauges, and tools
- Proficiency in programming computer-controlled machine tools
