About Us

The Labour Board is an independent adjudicative body established under the Labour Board Act. We are responsible for the fair and efficient administration and adjudication of responsibilities assigned to us under the Labour Board Act and sections of other Acts and Regulations.

About Our Opportunity

You will report to the Executive Officer, Nova Scotia Labour Board.

Primary Accountabilities

**As Labour Board Clerk you will be accountable for**:
Creating and maintaining case files in accordance with document and records management policies and practices.
Providing administrative and logístical support for hearings and other proceedings, including utilizing technology to facilitate video hearings.
Accurately maintaining hearing exhibits in accordance with document and records management policies and practices.
Accurately typing, formatting and proofreading Board orders/reasoned legal decisions from drafts prepared by the Chair/Vice-Chairs.
Preparing a copy of Board records for court appeals/judicial reviews in accordance with rules and procedures of the Nova Scotia Courts.
Conducting union representation votes at workplace locations throughout Nova Scotia.
Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have 5 years of related experience working in a professional environment, an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

You possess strong time management skills and can manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines. You bring an innovative approach to your work, offering creative solutions while operating within applicable policies, rules, and practices.

You are exceptionally detail oriented possessing strong grammar and editing abilities.

As the first line of contact with the public, you possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills. You have demonstrated history of working independently, require minimum supervision, exercising sound judgment, identifying urgent requests, and recognizing when issues need to be escalated.

While not required, the following would be considered an asset:
Experience with adjudicative boards/courts in labour and employment law.
Working knowledge of provincial government's STAR/STOR system.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s) and reference checks.

Equivalency

**Include, but not limited to**:
Bachelor degree in a related field and 1 year related work experience
Two year diploma and 3 years related work experience

Working Conditions

This position requires a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License.
You must be willing to drive to locations, sometimes remote, throughout the province, on short notice and in inclement weather conditions.
You may be required to work long and extended hours conducting votes.
You must be able to adjust working hours, including out of town travel for multi-day periods.
