**Position Overview**
- The Communications Specialist is an integral part of a dynamic team of Communications professionals. Working under the direction of the Director, Strategic Communications & Community Relations, the Specialist is primarily responsible for developing and delivering community engagement and communications strategies for a variety of internal departmental clients.
The Specialist serves as a point of contact for internal department requests for communications and engagement advice and assistance and works closely with members of the team to coordinate internal and external communications needs, such as website content, media and social media messaging to ensure alignment of District messaging across all channels. During an emergency, the Specialist may be required to assist with crisis communications including strategic messaging, media relations, supporting assigned spokespersons and supervising field information officers. In addition, the Specialist supports the position responsible for website content creation and maintenance.
**Qualifications**
You are a Communications generalist with specific skills and capacities in communications strategy, communications planning, public engagement, social media content strategy, and website content management. You have knowledge of the principles, objectives, methods and standards of communications work relevant to the public sector and are able to think critically and strategically by seeing the broad implications of events. As an adaptable and mature professional, you are able to understand your client’s core business objectives and create compelling and engaging content strategies to help them achieve those objectives. You possess a diploma in a related discipline (journalism, communications), plus a minimum of seven years of experience in a professional communications capacity. Public sector experience preferred. Please note that this is not a Marketing position.
