The Maintenance Technician works closely with the divisional Chilliwack team to ensure equipment and facilities are maintained accordingly to allow the teams to safely and efficiently achieve their targets to ensure BTN's continued success.

**Scope & Objectives**

As Maintenance Technician, you will monitor all systems, machinery and buildings for repairs and/or preventative maintenance. Your primary duties will include, but not be limited to;
- Continue our preventative maintenance schedules and perform scheduled maintenance as required.
- Monitor and stock all tools for the facility.
- Monitor all machinery related to Shipping and Production and perform any urgent maintenance.
- Assist the Potting Supervisor in fixing any issues related to the potting machine.
- Perform minor repairs of any building and structures at the facility, as required.
- Source and liaise with outside vendors when larger repairs or services are required.
- Keep and update a log of maintenance performed, as well as associated costs.

**Responsibilities**
- Monitor the operating hours on machinery such as tractors & gators and perform preventative maintenance as per a predetermined schedule.
- Monitor operating hours of the Forklift and contact Masonlift when a maintenance check needs to be scheduled.
- Monitor shipping wagons and effect repairs when required.
- Assist the Potting Supervisor to troubleshoot problems related to the potting machine and consult with suppliers when the solution isn’t evident or parts need to be replaced.
- Monitor the conveyor belts, effect repairs where necessary, and contact suppliers when parts are required.
- Contact an electrician when electrical problems require attention, that is outside the scope of this position.
- Monitor the two irrigation pumps and clean the filters as required.
- Oversee the variable frequency drives associated with the irrigation systems and in the event of a breakdown, contact our Supplier for a service call, when an on-site solution can not be found.
- Assist the Production Team in repairing broken irrigation lines in the field and assist with installation when upgrades are required.
- Oversee the upkeep of other pertinent equipment such as air compressors, boilers, greenhouse furnaces and portable generators.
- Oversee the start up of the greenhouse furnaces prior to the winter season.
- Oversee the rental of an air compressor and the blowing out of irrigation lines for winter close up.
- Purchasing of all required tools, where required, at the General Manager’s discretion.
- Oversee the repair of all small and large building repairs such as plumbing problems, roofing issues, wall, door or window damage, gutters, etc.
- Sourcing of service vendors for larger jobs or when select skill sets are required.
- Maintaining a log of all repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance
- Monitor the workshop and make sure all tools are returned and the workshop is kept clean and organized.
- Keep a stock of spare parts such as wheel bearings, conveyor chains and bearings, fuses, headlight bulbs, etc.
- Assist in other areas of the operation as required.

**Requirements**:

- Possess a high level of initiative.
- Have a working knowledge of engine repair and a keen interest in fixing things.
- A strong desire to learn and enjoy challenges.
- Proven problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, able to manage competing priorities.
- Must communicate well over the phone and have an ability to keep detailed and organized records.
- Very competent and safe handling of tools and equipment.
- Other trade skills such as welding certificates considered a strong asset.
- Experience operating a forklift is considered an asset.
