**LIBRARY TECHNICIAN**

We’re looking for a full-time **Library Technician **to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with each School’s Librarian to ensure the library space is welcoming, inclusive, organized and centred in learning and research. You’ll provide an essential service in organizing all materials in the library and supporting students and teachers in finding and using resources. You will split your time between the Lower School/Preschool Library (70%) and the Prep and Upper School Learning Commons (30%) and will report into the Head of Lower School and Preschool.
- **What You’ll Be Doing**:_
- Processing, cataloguing, sorting, shelving, discharging or filing library materials on a daily basis
- Working as part of a close-knit team to regularly assist students and teachers with basic research, technology support and location of materials
- Welcoming and assisting library users in accessing books, documents, electronic materials and other library materials
- Cataloguing new library acquisitions under the direction of the Librarian as necessary throughout the year
- Maintaining the library catalogue (Follett; Destiny) to ensure data integrity and currency by updating MARC records when new materials are acquired, or existing materials are lost or damaged 
- Working as part of a close-knit team to regularly assist students and teachers with Reader’s Advisory, the self-checkout system in the Learning Commons and basic research
- Assisting Librarians in delivering specialized library and reading programs in the Lower School, as required
- Supervising and monitoring students visiting the library as required; reading with Lower School classes at times
- Assisting in developing inventories, forms and finding aids
- Training users on library technology and equipment, including catalog databases, printers, copiers, etc.
- Ensuring all requirements are met pertaining to copyright laws and BVG Copyright policy within the Library and among staff and students
- Encouraging an interest, appreciation and understanding in the use and care of books and other resources to promote learning
- **What You’ll Need**:_
- Two-year Library and Information Technician Diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Library; preferably in a school setting
- Passionate about working with children and promoting the love of reading
- Knowledge of Standard classification systems for organizing a wide range of materials
- Extremely well-read with up-to-date knowledge of publishing trends, authors and the ability to assist with new acquisitions
- Records and information management principles, practices and standards
- Expertise in current and emerging digital information storage technologies
- Excellent research skills and techniques to conduct research into the origins and significance of materials and to support users in accessing materials
- Experience working with Library management/automation systems and Microsoft 365
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and cooperatively as part of a team
- Strong research, analytical, problem solving and project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
