Parks Supervisor

The Parks Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and supervision of operations and maintenance of public areas - municipal parks, ball diamonds, soccer fields, washrooms, waterfront, etc. This position will develop guidelines and procedures to ensure consistent practices are followed and public areas are well maintained.

**Reporting To**:Manager of Parks & Facilities

**Supervises**:Park & Facility Maintainers, Horticulturist

**Responsibilities**:
1. Coordinate operations and maintenance of public areas including but not limited to municipal parks and playgrounds, ball diamonds, soccer fields, beachfront, washrooms, skate parks, boardwalk, and bike parks

2. Tour and inspect parks, playgrounds, and facilities to identify problems and take corrective actions as required

3. Work closely with community group representatives to coordinate and execute special events; assist with public area maintenance; and provide input into park upgrades within the Municipality

4. Monitor the work of contractors to ensure safety and compliance with the terms and conditions of contracts

5. Develop and update operating policies, procedures, and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure safety of staff and community members

6. Contribute to the budgeting process for operating and capital expenses for the department

7. Maintain and make minor repairs to a variety of tools and equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, pumps, water fountains, chainsaws, weed eaters and push mowers

8. Oversee and direct the maintenance of ball diamonds which includes setting light timers, fixing fences, setting bases, and lining the infield

9. Maintain pathways and beach access areas in a clean and safe manner and ensure safety equipment is in good working condition.

10. Responsible for integrated pest management (IPM) program

11. Conduct minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing repairs as required

12. Investigate and resolve escalated customer complaints and concerns, ensuring they are addressed in a timely, accurate and professional manner

13. Monitor the coordination of all operational materials and oversee the procurement of contracts for equipment, services, and materials

14. Ensure that occupational health & safety practices are strictly observed and followed

15. Responsible for interviewing & hiring new employees, carrying out performance appraisals, directing the training & development of staff, providing coaching opportunities and carrying out disciplinary actions

16. Adhere to Municipality of Kincardine corporate policies and procedures

17. Complete other duties as assigned by Management

**Education & Experience Requirements**:

- Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies, Parks Maintenance, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity
- Possess a Valid Ontario Drivers license - DZ license would be considered an asset
- Playground Inspection Certification considered an asset
- Chainsaw Safety & Operation Certification considered an asset

**Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies**:

- Strong working knowledge in parks operations and sports field management
- Strong working knowledge of parks-related maintenance, equipment, and best practices; the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
- Knowledge of CityWorks software considered an asset
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop a good team environment
- Ability to adapt to the daily challenges associated with a busy work environment
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively respond to public inquiries in a respectful and tactful manner
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment in decision-making
- Demonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitude
- Established computer skills

**Employment Information**:

- Regular, Full-Time Position
- 40 Hours per Week
- Day, evening and weekend work will be required
- On-Call Requirement on a rotating schedule
- Compensation - Group 11 (Step 1 $39.77/ hr - Step 5 $48.83/hr)

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $39.77-$48.83 per hour
