**Financial Analyst**:
**Primary Purpose**: The Financial analyst will provide financial management expertise from budgeting to reporting and financial analysis of academic, research and clinical activities within WCVM including Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC). The role provides comprehensive financial support and works with college leaders to develop and implement solutions that achieve strategic priorities and outcomes for college and clinical programs. The role will be responsible to identify and implement internal controls and processes and to establish job manuals to ensure integrity of financial activities are met.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Manager, Finance and Administration, this position works closely with a broad range of individuals and groups at all levels of the organization. Activities may include preparation of financial statements and other internal or external reports; completion of accounting processes such as variance analysis and reconciliations; participating in the review, documentation and enhancement of current business processes and practices; and other projects or duties which may be identified.

The position works closely with the Veterinary Medical Centre to provide oversight and guidance on accounting activities including but not limited to financial budgeting, reporting, monitoring of the funds and compiling data for senior leaders.

The projects and initiatives are complex in nature, and may involve multiple projects, institutions or participants. Sound judgment and strict attention to detail, policies and procedures is important as the impact of error is high and could have a negative impact to the college and university. The analyst is required to manage multiple tasks, details, deadlines and priorities in an environment where interruptions are the norm. The ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals, make decisions with the appropriate supporting facts and data, and problem solving are key factors for success in this position. The analyst requires a high standard of professional integrity in handling confidential information.

**Accountabilities**
- Supports financial decisions in the college, analyzing and understanding the impacts of these decisions, and advises on progressive strategies that align with the financial strategies and goals.
- Provides valuable financial insight and timely and accurate reporting for all areas of responsibility. Assists the Finance and Administration Manager with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes.
- Provide oversight for the VMC financial operations, supporting the VMC leadership with analysis expertise and budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Provides solutions that will improve financial procedures and processes within the college, including review of current processes, fund structure and usage.
- Contributes to the financial strategy development, implementation, and monitoring within the college.
- Monitors funding and revenue sources, determines how financial resources are utilized, and identifies opportunities that achieve greater effectiveness of operations.
- Monitors financial progress on approved projects and initiatives, ensuring funds are expended and reported in an appropriate and timely manner to relevant stakeholders.
- Produces reports and prepares financial statements for the college and its units to review with appropriate stakeholders.
- Presents and conveys accurate information and data to ensure financially viable and sustainable decision-making and problem-solving.
- Executes on non-routine, complex financial transactions within the college, including those for goods and services, and works with central office colleagues and service center partners.
- As part of the college finance team, collaborate on academic, research and clinical initiatives, providing support for processes such as year end and holiday coverage.
- Accountability for fund management and financial support to the Dean's Office.
- Ensures that exposure to risk and liability is mitigated by ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards, agreements, and university and unit policies and procedures.
