- Under the direction or delegation of the orthopedic surgeon:

- Applies, adjusts, modifies, repairs and removes cast on patients throughout the hospital
- Makes and applies splints and bandages
- Incorporate walking devices (heels, hinges) into casts
- Applies, maintains, and adjusts traction on inpatient and outpatients
- Removes sutures and pins
- Removes, changes and adjust wound dressings
- Provides support to patients and parents throughout procedures
- Reports and documents appropriately all unusual findings
- Teaches casts and brace care, crutch walking and methods of preventing problems to patients and families
- Participates in the teaching of students in the health sciences who are assigned to the orthopedic clinic
- Provides ongoing in-service to registered nurses regarding care of casts and traction
- Participates in meetings of clinic staff of the orthopedic clinic
- Is responsible for stocking and maintaining supplies and equipment in the clinic, in the inpatient orthopedic room and on the cart
- Attends and participates in professional meetings related to orthopedic technology
- Maintains current knowledge base through reading of professional journals
- Tests and evaluates the effectiveness of new materials

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
- Current registration as an Orthopedic Technologist or RPN, or willing to complete a systemic on-the-job training program under the supervision of the Orthopedic Surgery division (Essential)
- Good interpersonal skills (Essential)
- Experience in orthopedic field (Essential)
- Paediatric orthopedic experience (preferred)
- Bilingualism (English/French) (preferred)

Availability to work evening and weekends will be an expectation of the position.

**RÉSUMÉ DES FONCTIONS**
- Sous la direction ou la délégation du chirurgien orthopédiste, le ou la titulaire:

- Applique, ajuste, modifie, répare et retire les plâtres de patients partout dans l’Hôpital.
- Prépare et applique des attelles et des bandages;
- Incorpore des instruments de marche (talons, charnières) à des plâtres;
- Applique, entretient et ajuste la traction chez les patients hospitalisés et les patients de clinique externe;
- Retire des points de suture et des broches;
- Retire, change et ajuste les bandages des blessures;
- Offre du soutien aux patients et à leurs parents tout au long des procédures.
- Signale et documente adéquatement toutes les observations inhabituelles.
- Enseigne aux patients et à leurs familles la façon de prendre soin des plâtres et des appareils orthopédiques, de marcher avec des béquilles ainsi que des méthodes permettant d’éviter les problèmes.
- Participe à l’enseignement donné aux étudiants en sciences de la santé qui sont affectés à la clinique d’orthopédie.
- Fournit continuellement de l’éducation aux infirmières autorisées au sujet des plâtres et de la traction.
- Participe aux réunions du personnel clinique de la clinique d’orthopédie.
- Assume la responsabilité de remplir et de tenir à jour les stocks et l’équipement de la clinique, de la salle d’orthopédie des patients hospitalisés et du chariot.
- Assiste aux réunions professionnelles portant sur la technologie orthopédique et y participe.
- Se tient bien informée en lisant des revues professionnelles.
- Met à l’essai et évalue l’efficacité du nouveau matériel.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Vérification des antécédents en vue d’un travail auprès de personnes vulnérables (Essentiel)
- Immatriculation en règle de technicien ou technicienne orthopédiste ou d’infirmière
auxiliaire autorisée/infirmier auxiliaire autorisé, ou désir de suivre un programme
de formation complet sous la supervision de la Division de chirurgie orthopédique (Essentiel)
