Youth Activity Worker

**OVERVIEW**: The Community Sports Program is an after-school sports and recreation program for children and youth ages 5 to 17. During the summer months, we facilitate our ‘Ba-de-Minook’ (Everyone come out and play) Summer Mobile Recreation Day Camps in partnership with SECFS Prevention and Waterways.
Reporting to the Resource Development Specialist, the Youth Activity Worker is responsible to travel, plan, and deliver activities for children and youth in the eight Southeast First Nations in Manitoba. The Youth Activity Worker is responsible for the overall well-being of program participants and will help facilitate various activities which promote physical activity and arts to children and youth living in the communities.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITES**:
- Engage with local community resources to deliver successful programming in each Southeast First Nation community.
- Ensure the provision of a caring, stimulating, and inclusive environment for the children and youth attending programs.
- Supervise children attending the program while promoting safety and respect amongst all participants.
- Plan and organize arts and crafts, sports, and land-based physical activities for children/ youth.
- Ensure efficient day to day administration of programming including registration forms, record keeping and log sheets.
- Provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere by developing appropriates strategies to support children in managing their behavior.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Current First Aid/ CPR and NVCI is an asset but can be completed upon employment.
- Must be willing to travel frequently to the Southeast communities.
- Able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Previous experience working with children and youth.
- Demonstrated abilities in conflict resolution, showing initiative and good judgement.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, youth, staff, and parents/ guardians.
- A valid Manitoba driver’s license and a reliable vehicle is an asset.
- Must have or be willing to get a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as a condition of employment.
- Successful applicant(s) will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
