**Job Posting: Environmental Technician**

Reporting directly to the Environmental Superintendent (or their designate) this position is primarily responsible for compliance inspections, environmental monitoring programs and supporting site reporting requirements. A large majority of time spent in this position will be outdoors sometimes in inclement weather conditions. The Environmental Technician position is site based and works a 15 days on, 13 days off rotation, working 12 hours per day while at site.

**Responsibilities (including but not limited to)**:

- Hydrology, groundwater, and in-stream monitoring;
- Environmental Inspections;
- Documentation and record keeping;
- Conduct field monitoring and sampling programs as required under existing permits, licenses, and the company's Environmental Management Plan;
- Assisting scientific specialists in the collection of baseline and effects programs for terrestrial and aquatic field programs;
- Completing chain of custodies, processing, packing, and shipping collected samples as required;
- Conduct field and in-house lab analyses of samples using on-site portable analyzers and meters;
- Maintaining detailed and comprehensive field notes;
- Calibrating, installing, and maintaining sampling and monitoring equipment;
- Entering collected field and laboratory data into the environmental database;
- Regularly updating, filing, and managing environmental documentation;
- Conduct internal due diligence compliance inspections of various site facilities and operational activities;
- Assisting with spill prevention and spill response;
- Participating and assisting in waste and water management programs;
- Other technical field and office tasks to support the environment development and site operations.
- Lifting (Large coolers of water samples, inflatable boats, generators, ice augers etc.)
- Ensures that environmental commitments and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies are observed in all site activities.
- Conducts environmental monitoring as required by permits and according to Management Plans and Standard Operating Procedures
- Follows all QA/QC requirements and procedures.
- Conducts inspections and audits of contractor environmental management system (EMS) and environmental activities (e.g., waste management).
- Interacts and communicates effectively within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of environmental professionals, engineers, and contractors.
- Provides logístical support to the team and performs all other related duties, as necessary.
- Post-secondary Degree or diploma in an Environmental related discipline is required;
- Strong computer skills are desirable (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint);
- Must be very safety conscious, reliable, self-starter and a team player;
- Must be detail oriented with the ability to take clear, concise, and defensible field notes;
- Previous experience with environmental monitoring/sampling is highly desired;
- Previous experience with mentoring less experienced Monitors or Technicians would be considered an asset;
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate is an asset;
- Experience with ATV, GPS, and snowmobile operating procedures are all highly desired.

**Work Location & Conditions**

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
