The permanent part time Lab Assistant performs non-DOT, drug testing specimen accessioning. Ensures all necessary documentation is collected and specimens are correctly processed. Adheres to company policies and Ministry of Health guidelines in order to ensure the smooth operation of the company and maintenance of the company’s image of superior customer service. Also responsible for coordinating workflow.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

¨ Receives and confirms security of specimen packages

¨ Verify all information on chain-of-custody forms

¨ Record and report questionable integrity of specimen or documentation

¨ Identify and input accounts, test codes and other applicable information (data entry)

¨ Pours off specimen to testing containers according to procedure for a variety of tests, aliquot specific amount

¨ Pour off specimen for further testing according to procedures

¨ Log and store original specimen containers in secured fridge or freezer

¨ Dispose of specimens properly when required following proper procedures

¨ Solve problems related to forensic processing

¨ Clarify and retrieve missing information 4) Quality Assurance

¨ Ensures that Quality Control checks are performed as required in documented work instructions.

¨ Advise supervisor of violation of any Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

¨ Recommend improvement to procedures

¨ Prepare for regular inspections by governing regulatory bodies.

¨ Follows all relevant pre and/or post analytical QA protocols as described in the company QA manual.

¨ Trains and develops skill development of new team members as required.

¨ Confirms integrity of packaging and contents for secured accounts.

¨ Prepares for regular accreditation inspections of department, as directed.

¨ Communicates and cooperates with inspectors

¨ May be required to provide testimony in legal procedures and prepare documentation for such

¨ Protects their own health and safety by reporting hazards and working in compliance with established safe working practices

¨ Performs duties in accordance with established company policies and procedures.

¨ Disinfecting of work area and equipment on a daily basis

¨ Preserves and safeguard all confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of employment with Dynacare.

¨ Observes and comply with the policies of the company and applicable legal requirements with respect to confidential information and the protection of privacy.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENC
- Secondary School
- Certification or degree required: N/A
- Previous related experience required to perform job: Considered as an asset (0 - 4 Years )
