Edmonton, Canada Element Materials Technology Full time

Overview:
Element has an opportunity for an **Lab Assistant** to join our rapidly expanding team in Edmonton for an assignment that will run until the end of 2024. As a member of the operations team in one of the various laboratories across Element, the Associate Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision. The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

**Responsibilities**:

- Collect client samples according to the LIMS generated batch sheet and analyze, maintaining high standards of analytical quality.
- Perform analysis as documented in the test method
- Interpret and validate results and data.
- Prepare reagents and standards.
- Perform regular equipment maintenance and advise team leader when equipment is not functioning.
- Input results into LIMS.
- Clean glassware as specified in the test method.
- Maintain equipment maintenance log and reagent preparation log.
- Request supplies and consumables in advance of requirement by recording needed items in order book.
- Train new staff in test methods
- Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Manual.
- General duties as directed by the team leader or operations manager

Skills / Qualifications:

- Working knowledge of laboratory safety
- HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed
- 0-2 years’ experience in a testing related field
- Basic understanding of testing concepts
- Possess computer skills.

Physical Demands:

- Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
- Lifting requirements: lifting
50 lbs. on occasion
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
