The Ministry of the Solicitor General, the Ontario Provincial Police and Commander of Security Bureau seek a qualified person to provide 24-hour security for Ontario government buildings, its contents, parking garage and grounds, or those used by the Government of Ontario that are secured by the OPP including physical safety and security to its occupants and visitors.

**Note: Effective January 1st, 2025 the salary range for this position is $38.70 to $41.05 per hour in compliance with the applicable OPPA collective agreement provisions.**

**The hours of work are 40 hours per week. You are expected to work rotating shifts of 12 hours in a security detachment that provides 7 days per week service, 24 hours a day.**

**This position is an operational position requiring in-person attendance. The successful applicant will be required to report to Queen's Park Detachment to perform their duties in accordance with Ontario Public Service workplace policies.**

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: To provide 24-hour security services for Ontario government buildings, its contents, parking garage and grounds, or those used by the Government of Ontario that are secured by the OPP including physical safety and security to its occupants and visitors.
**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- Must possess a valid, Province of Ontario, Class G driver's license
- Must meet and maintain annual Use of Force training and specifications according to policing standards for Special Constables
- Ability to pass training in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Constable status as per the Community Safety and Policing Act
- Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation
- Ability to engage in regular walking, running, climbing during patrols, escorting persons and responding to emergencies.
- Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or permanent resident status and legally entitled to work in this country

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Judgement and discretion to work within established procedures.
- Communication skills to greet, escort and provide information and directions to building occupants and visitors including dignitaries, employees and the general public.
- Interpersonal skills to intervene and restrain during disturbances and other volatile situations, as well as to gather information during incident investigations, including an ability to relay, explain and exchange information with peers, emergency personnel (Fire, EMS), police officers and other Detachment personnel when dispatching, during incidents, shift changes, etc.
- Problem Solving ability to assess potentially dangerous or volatile situations, and determines appropriate response and actions given the circumstances and established procedures to resolve the issue or problem.
- Ability to use of computers for data entry, working processing and security operations functions.
- Written communication skills to document incidents and prepare reports.
- Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate integrity in the workplace.
