**AUTISM NOVA SCOTIA - POSITION DESCRIPTION**:
**Post-Secondary Autism Support Services (PASS) Specialist - Full Time Employment**

POSITION TITLE: Post-Secondary Autism Support Services (PASS) Specialist

POSITION DETAILS: Fulltime, 40 hours a week. Student support is delivered Monday through Fridays, between the hours of 8:30 to 4:30pm. Occasional evening work. Mixture of online and in person.

DIRECT REPORT: Post-Secondary Autism Support Services Coordinator

**The Opportunity**:A Post-Secondary Autism Support Services (PASS) Specialist provides one to one individualized support to a student with autism in non-academic areas to promote their independence and positive social image. The support is student led and requires constant collaboration with the PASS Coordinator.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Guide students learning to complete goals in non-academic areas (social & life skills, organization, etc.)
- Plan activities for sessions that will help student develop skills & reach their goals
- Create a professional environment of respect and trust with the student
- Promote inclusion and foster student independence
- Ensure adequate communication with the PASS Coordinator and the students
- Adhere to post-secondary institution policies, practices, and procedures
- Attend training - both program specific and organization wide
- Travel to and from campus to support students
- Other duties as required

**Minimum qualifications**:

- A college diploma or university degree (preferably in Education, Psychology, or Human Services), and/or equivalent experience to be accepted
- A clear, current Criminal Reference Check and Child Abuse Register Search is required
- Up to date First Aid and CPR certifications required or willingness to acquire
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification or willingness to acquire

**Minimum Knowledge and Experience**:

- Basic knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Experience supporting adult individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities, and/or experience in supported employment, educational and/or recreational environments
- Knowledge and ability to develop and modify activities when necessary to meet student’s preferences and goals

- Superior ability to build and foster professional relationships
- Creative thinking
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve on the job
- Strong organizational skills, communication skills and keen attention to detail

**Essential and Other Related Job Duties**:

- A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for travel is required.
- As a Proof of Vaccination organization, all Autism Nova Scotia staff are required to be fully vaccinated. Those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical, religious, or cultural reasons must wear a mask at all times, practice social distancing, and sanitize their hands upon entry while inside Autism Nova Scotia offices or community program spaces.
