**EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING COORDINATOR**

**PROGRAM**
The Health & Social Department, in collaboration with the Tsartlip First Nation and broader community, is responsible for increasing the capacity and sustainability of the department and enhance engagement and ownership of the health of the W̱SÁNEĆ people. The department develops and implements health programs that incorporate the traditions, values, and strengths of the W̱SÁNEĆ people.

**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**
The Employment and Training Coordinator works within the Social Programs division and assists Tsartlip community members age 15 and older in securing employment in their specialized field or area of interest by providing facilitated workshops, training referrals, and coaching.

**SUPERVISION RECEIVED**
The Employment and Training Coordinator operates under the direct supervision of the Director Health & Social.

**SUPERVISION EXERCISED**
The Employment and Training Coordinator may supervise employees if requested.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Determines clients level of employment readiness and employment service needs by working with them to identify specific needs employment-related goals, strengths, needs, abilities, skills, and other relevant employment-related factors;
- Collaborates with all programs, when applicable, to support those seeking employment and training opportunities;
- Motivates, coaches and mentors clients with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds;
- Builds partnerships with employers, community agencies and other partners;
- Provides individualized employment advocacy for clients and employers when appropriate.
- Assists clients in organizing on-the-job training and guidance in order to successfully maintain their employment, work experience, or community attachment.
- Identifies client job coaching/mentoring needs and coordinates with mentor services as required.
- Monitors participant progress by reviewing activities and results on an agreed upon schedule; prepares participant progress notes, action plans and follow-up reports;
- Facilitates pre-employment skill building workshops as required (i.e. First Aid, food safe etc.)
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports required by the Director, partners and funders;
- Creates and maintains secure files for each client; maintains and updates filing (paper and electronic), mailing systems;
- Participates in marketing, outreach, and promotional activities for the program;
- Researches and shares employment opportunities, training opportunities with the community;
- Prepares funding proposals; ensures programs and services are adequately funded and that reports required by any funding or partner agencies are completed as requirement;
- Drafts letters, spreadsheets, and other documents; photocopying, faxing, and tracking outgoing reports and/or other documents as required;
- Creates and maintains program related files, records, manuals and other documents as per departmental document management policies and procedures;
- Attends relevant training and workshops identified by the Director Health & Social to enhance program services;
- Monitors areas of responsibility for opportunities for improvement and innovation and works proactively to implement these;
- Attends departmental and staff meetings and events as required;
- Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, and all other policies, bylaws and laws adopted by Council as well as legislated policies;
- Ensures that service quality standards are maintained and consistently delivered in all areas of responsibility;
- Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues;
- Presents a professional, positive and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with clients, families, community and co-workers;
- Promotes a safe work place; ensures that all established safety procedures are followed;
- Carries out other duties essential to the position as directed by the Director Health & Social.

**FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY**
The Employment and Training Coordinator is responsible for managing funding received from third parties.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma); and
- Degree or Diploma in a related discipline such as Career Development, Human Service, is preferred; and
- 2 years job development, career coaching or employment counselling experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience motivating, coaching and mentoring clients with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds;
- Experience developing and negotiating contracts;
- Experience preparing funding proposals, working with third party funders and associated programs and projects;
- Experience developing and preparing a variety of written reports, spreadsheets, presentations and other documentation;
