Tenant Companion

_**Do you like to engage with people and make a difference in someone’s day by helping them with the little things? If you are, then Fred Douglas Heritage House is the place for you to be employed to be like “the friendly neighbour” in our supportive housing setting for 28 senior citizens.**_

We are currently looking to fill a.5 EFT tenant companion NIGHT position. There is opportunity for additional shifts on days, evenings and nights.

**Qualifications**:
Health care aide certificate or at least 2 years’ experience working with seniors preferred

High School diploma or equivalent preferred

English Fluency in both written and verbal communication

Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be able to provide a complete and current (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check and Adult Abuse Registry check. IF you do not have, must be willing to obtain.

Supportive housing is a safe, secure living environment for those seniors that are no longer able to safely reside in their own home, but they are not requiring the level of care of a personal care home. Supportive housing is that “in-between level of community home-style living”.

As the “friendly neighbour” a tenant companion is a multi
- functional worker who provides support and supervision to our tenants residing in supportive housing. You will need to provide cueing and direction with daily living needs such as getting dressed, changing clothing, brushing teeth, combing hair, and stand-by assist with showering. Your bit of assistance helps the people living here maintain their independence as much as possible.

You will also need to provide medication reminders to tenants when it is time for them to take their medication using a pre dosed medication pack system.

You will conduct and encourage participation in different fun recreational activities with those that wish to take part.

You will serve meals to the tenants in our central dining room and clean up, and do dishes after meals.

You will be responsible to keep the facility clean and tidy and a safe environment for those that live here.

Must have the ability to work in an environment where different situations can occur and adapt easily to change, when required.

**Salary**: From $19.09 per hour
