**Indigenous Foodlands Coordinator, Part-time, Term Certain**

Collingwood Neighbourhood House’s mandate is to promote the well-being of the Renfrew-Collingwood community by providing leadership and working collaboratively with individuals, families, agencies and other groups to develop and support inclusive, innovative, sustainable initiatives and services that respond to the community’s social, educational, economic, health, cultural and recreational needs.

Renfrew-Collingwood Food Justice (RCFJ) is a Community Development program at CNH. RCFJ promotes equitable access, intercultural learning and community leadership around sustainable growing, local food, food security, diverse food traditions, and healthy eating in the RC neighbourhood. We believe that food is a human right, and that the “right to food” means much more than meeting basic nutritional requirements. We help bring neighbours together to find solutions to issues like hunger, isolation, and racism in our community.

**Job Overview**

Renfrew-Collingwood Food Justice (RCFJ) is seeking a critical and passionate individual to join the Food Justice team this growing season. This person will be responsible for supporting the organization, facilitation and promotion of Indigenous Foodlands, community gardens, and food sovereignty activities and celebratory events with RCFJ. The position will work primarily within the Norquay Community Food Forest, the Cheyenne Community Garden, and the Collingwood Community Garden with some time spent supporting other urban foodlands work, including the Rooftop Garden at CNH.

**Responsibilities**
- Steward the plants, lands, and buildings at the Norquay Community Food Forest
- Research, plan, and execute community gatherings celebrating Indigenous Foodlands and food sovereignty, including Indigenous Storytelling sessions, Healing Circles, Indigenous Plant Medicine Learning Workshops, Indigenous People’s Day Celebrations, and Still Creek Feast Day.
- Promote and host volunteer drop-ins in the gardens and foodlands spaces.
- Lead the project of building a Smoke House
- Monitor, coordinate, and support the community-led Cheyenne Community Garden and Collingwood Community Garden
- Support urban agriculture initiatives at the CNH Rooftop Garden
- Outreach and recruit volunteers and encourage them to share their unique knowledge sets
- Connect with schools and local agencies for promotion and programming
- Network with other Food Justice Collaborations throughout the city, such as the Working Group for Indigenous Food Sovereignty
- Keep up-to-date records of participants, plants, programs, and equipment
- Plan, write, and post weekly social media updates as well as monthly blog posts and newsletter content for Indigenous Foodlands and Urban Agriculture programs
- Work collaboratively as part of a team and to connect with Host Nations
- Build elements of Indigenous Food Sovereignty and Justice into all programming

**Qualifications**
- Experience in urban agriculture, horticulture, landscape, Food and Land Systems, or a related field; or a combination of work experience in an anti-oppression community development setting
- Demonstrated interest, involvement and knowledge of RC community resources, networks, and institutions
- Understanding and experience working with Indigenous Peoples
- Lived experience with Indigenous land practices
- Strong gardening and farming skills, knowledge of Indigenous plant species, preferably with knowledge of farming/growing in an urban environment
- Demonstrated ability to steward 3600sqft of gardens/foodlands
- Working knowledge of community development values including principles of food justice, Indigenous food Sovereignty, and sustainable food systems
- Strong self starter and comfortable with independent work
- Physical capabilities, including bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds
- Excellent communication skills, feels comfortable doing outreach work and connecting with new people, including, vulnerable populations, Indigenous Peoples, newcomers and English language learners
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and skill sets
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Must complete a satisfactory Criminal Record Check

**Assets**
- Fluency or conversational skills in a non-English language an asset (hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh sníchim, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi)
- Familiarity with marketing tools such as MailChimp, Canva, and Hootsuite
- Ability to work with Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and other computer programs
- Valid B.C. drivers license and possess own vehicle

**Job Details**
- Salary: $22.23/hr Schedule: TBA, 15hrs/week, June 2023 - March 2024 with possibility of extension
- Start Date: June 26th, 2023
- This is a unionized position covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
