The Rideau Canoe Club is looking for passionate, responsible, and knowledgeable individuals to coach the Canoe Kids, Sprint, Special Olympics, Masters and Recreational Paddling Programs for the 2023 season. **Recreational Paddling Coach**

**Dates**: June 1- October 15, 2023. There will be opportunities to start in June, July, and/or September.

**Hours**: Paddling Instructors will work hourly shifts as scheduled by the Coordinator, usually 4-6 hours per week.

**Responsibilities**

Leadership
- Make lesson plans/practice plans, with help from the Recreational Paddling Coordinator
- Communicate with fellow coaches and with the Canoe Kids Coordinator
- Ensure safety protocols are always followed (staff-athlete ratios, life jacket, motorboat use etc.), including
COVID-19 safety protocols
- Communicate professionally and efficiently with participants
- Work closely with U14 Coaches, Canoe Kids Coaches, Masters Coaches and other Recreational Paddling Coaches (share equipment/space)

Coaching
- Introduce and instruct participants on the basics of recreational canoe and kayak and various other paddle sports
- Follow basic guidelines for Paddling Programs developed by RCC
- Supervise participants and welcome them throughout the session.
- Promote and encourage sport in a fun and safe environment.
- Ensure the participants are learning relevant paddling skills
- Must be able to work with adults in a professional manner
- Set up and put away equipment.

**Requirements**:

- Must be turning 17 in 2023, or older
- Experience instructing paddling and/or working with adults is an asset
- Experience coaching other RCC programs is an asset
- Must have great communication and leadership skills and be enthusiastic about sharing a love of paddling
- At the time of hiring must submit signed contract and proof of the following:

- a current Police Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector,
- Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator Card,
- CPR C and Standard First Aid,
- NCCP Community-Initiation Trained **or **ORCKA certified **or **Paddle Canada certified **or **equivalent
- Safe Sport trained as per Canoe Kayak Canada requirements.
- Passion for canoe/kayak is a must

**Compensation**

**Job Types**: Part-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 5 months
Part-time hours: 4-6 per week

**Salary**: $22.00-$29.00 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Morning shift
- Weekend availability

- Ottawa, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
