**Research Project Coordinator - ELCC Competition 2024-056**

**Early Learning Child Care**

**Full-Time Term (3 years)**

**Closing Date: June 24, 2024**

**Position Summary**

Under the direction of the manager of First Nation Early Learning and Child Care, the research project coordinator will lead the implementation of a 3 year research project entitled: Defining and Strengthening Quality in Early Leaning and Child Care through a First Nations Lens.

First Nation Early Learning and Child Care of Manitoba (FNELCCM) has secured Federal funding for this 3 year research project. FNELCCM was established in 2018 through a fiscal arrangement with the Government of Canada called the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework. This fiscal arrangement commits significant funding over 10 years (2018-2029) to strengthen Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) programs and services for Indigenous children and families across Canada. With this funding in place, FNELCCM supports high quality ELCC in all 63 First Nations in Manitoba.

**This research project will explore considerations of quality in Early Learning and Child Care through a First Nations lens. With 63 First Nations in Manitoba, including 5 language dialects and varied geographies, there is great diversity in the cultural practices, languages, and traditional ways of knowing and doing among First Nations in Manitoba. Understanding this diversity, with respect to differing understandings of and approaches to quality in ELCC, is central to this research project.
Phase 1 of the research project is to co-design and implement a participatory-based cultural study in several First Nations (between 10 to 21 communities). This aspect of the research project is expected to take 18 months and will entail travel and field research in communities. A Research Assistant will support the Research Project Coordinator in this phase of work.

Phase 2 of the research project is a comprehensive gaps analysis, which is expected to take 6 months. A Policy Analyst will support the Research Project Coordinator in this phase of work.

The last phase of the research project will focus on the development of standards and training competencies in quality ELCC, which is expected to take 12 months. A Writer will support the Research Project Coordinator in this phase of work.

The Research Project Coordinator will oversee all aspects of these 3 phases, including direct supervision of the Research Assistant, Policy Analyst, and Writer.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Coordinate and facilitate large knowledge sharing events.
- Coordinate cultural gatherings in First Nations.
- Coordinate and implement qualitative data collection (e.g., focus group, key informant interviews).
- Group facilitation.
- Conduct qualitative data analysis.
- Write and prepare all necessary reports, including status updates and final reports for funders, partners, and key stakeholders.
- Monitor the budget along with the Assistant Manager and Finance Controller.
- Directly supervise the Research Assistant, Policy Analyst, and Writer.
- Participate in FNELCCM team meetings as scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a social research field of study is required.
- Advanced degree or equivalent in social research field (e.g., Master of Social Work in Indigenous Knowledges; Master of Indigenous Studies; Master of Early Childhood Education) is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of child development and early childhood pedagogy.
