The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region (ASNR) is a community support service organization that provides programs and services to people living with dementia and their care partners in the Niagara Region. We work closely with other service providers to ensure quality care and support for our clients.

**Position Description**

**Title**: Program and Education Assistant

**Reporting To**: Director of Education, Community Engagement and Quality

**Salary**:$16.55 per hour, Canada Summer Jobs Program

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday

30 hours per week for 16 weeks

Tentative Start date of May 6, 2024

**Position Summary**

The Program Assistant’s primary responsibility will be to provide essential support in both administrative and facilitation capacities. A key focus will be on contributing to the success of the Early Stage and Wellness Programs, namely the Power of Music, Mind in Motion, Wellness group, and Art Program. These programs are designed to address diverse aspects of care, incorporating therapeutic interventions such as music, cognitive and physical stimulation and cultivating a supportive community for individuals in the early stages of dementia.

Additionally the Program Assistant will participate in Education Programs, like Aging and Dementia Simulation, Frontline Education and Community Health Fairs. This provides a unique chance to contribute to raising awareness and reducing dementia-related stigma, fostering understanding and compassion in the community.

Beyond program-specific responsibilities, the Program Assistant will extend support to the Volunteer Services Department and Database Support. This additional administrative role ensures the smooth functioning of various services and supports a positive and enriching experience for our clients.

Multifaceted contributions will be instrumental in promoting the overall well-being, safety, and independence of individuals living with dementia. Through effective administration and facilitation, the Program Assistant will actively contribute to fostering a supportive and engaging environment for our community members.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Assisted with preparing and facilitating the Early-Stage Wellness Programs, including Power of Music, Minds in Motion, and Wellness Group.
- Assist with the preparation and facilitation of the Aging and Dementia Simulation
- Assist with the preparation and facilitation of the Arts Expressions Program.
- Assist with supporting Health Fairs in the community.
- Assist with the maintenance of the AlayaCare client database.
- Assist with the maintenance of ASNR Volunteer files.

**Qualifications**
- Pursuing relevant Post-Secondary Education in Social Work, Psychology, Therapeutic Recreation, and Nursing or a related field.
- Current Police clearance and vulnerable sector screen
- Must be between the ages of 15- 30 in accordance with Canada Summer Jobs
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- As ASNR clients include the most vulnerable persons, it is strongly recommended that all staff be immunized to help prevent the transmission of infections.

**Skills and Knowledge**
- Must have a good understanding of dementia
- Must be motivated to participate in a client-directed model
