Under the general supervision of the Analytical Facility Manager - ANALEST, the ANALEST, Facility Instruments Technician performs routine maintenance of lab equipment and is responsible for maintaining the laboratory and instruments, assisting instrument users, and analyzing lab reports. Handling and working with chemicals and cryogenics is a large component of this position. This position requires awareness of and compliance with all workplace health and safety practices. In addition, the incumbent must report equipment malfunctions, unusual occurrences and potentially hazardous situations to the appropriate supervisor immediately.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the process
- Scheduling the use of lab equipment and resources
- Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment
- Collecting experimental data, verifying results and passing on findings
- Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
- Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies used in teaching and/or research labs
- Liaising with service provider to resolve issues with malfunctioning equipment
- Ensuring the safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials while operating within close proximity to others

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor Degree of Science in Chemistry or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two of recent and related experience in a chemistry laboratory environment, performing routine maintenance of lab equipment and instruments, handling and working with chemicals and cryogenics, assisting instrument users, and analyzing lab reports.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation including elemental analyzers, gas, ion and liquid chromatographs, various spectrophotometers, mass spectrometers and other analytical instrumentation.
- Broad knowledge and experience with analytical techniques associated with organic and inorganic chemistry.
- Experience conduct training sessions on instrument operations to undergraduate andgraduate students
- Knowledge with all workplace health and safety practices and experience ensuring compliance
- Knowledge of computer operation including instrumentation packaged software
- Ability to maintain instrument operation
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Skilled in computer software tools (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Adaptable, conscientious and highly organized.
- Shows good judgment and initiative.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team.

**Assets (Nonessential)**:

- Master’s Degree in Chemistry is an asset.
