**Job Summary**:
Are you committed to working with Indigenous communities and influencing change? Do you want to support Reconciliation efforts at the City of Mississauga? If so, please consider this unique opportunity with the Indigenous Relations team. The Liaison, Indigenous Perspectives, will work with City staff, Indigenous residents and Treaty and Traditional Territory partners to advance Reconciliation initiatives and build Indigenous perspectives into City work in a good way.

The City of Mississauga is located within the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat Peoples. Members of the Mississauga Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Huron-Wendat First Nation and/or Indigenous ancestry are encouraged to apply.

The City will be consulting with the Nations who have Treaty and Traditional territory within the City as part of the hiring process for this position.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provide guidance and advice to all City Departments pertaining to Indigenous Peoples including:

- Best practices in ensuring Indigenous perspectives are included and upheld in City policy and procedure;
- Best practices in communicating and engaging with Indigenous communities, First Nations and confederacies.
- Liaise and foster positive relationships with Nations, confederacies and Indigenous community groups, Friendship Centre(s) and residents on partnering projects and programs;
- Focus on ensuring Indigeneity is part of all business across the City;
- Assist with the creation of the City’s Reconciliation Plan;
- Respond to internal and external inquiries;
- Assist with the preparation of the City’s annual Reconciliation Report;
- Remain current on issues that impact local Indigenous Nations, confederacies and communities and relations between municipal and Indigenous Peoples.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- Lived experience as a First Nations, Métis or Inuit person is preferred.
- Experience liaising and working with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council, Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation, Huron-Wendat First Nation, and all other Nations and communities with Traditional territory within the City of Mississauga;
- Lived experience within the dynamics of building relationships and reconciliation between communities;
- A clear understanding of Municipal requirements under all relevant Provincial and Federal legislation;
- University degree in Indigenous studies, political science, municipal affairs, urban geography, history, planning, and/or a related field is beneficial, or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience;
- A high level of fluency and ability to learn quickly in a digital office environment;
- Ability to successfully work with internal and external clients.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 36.13 - $ 48.17
