In partnership with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTl), OHRI is looking for an experienced Research Program Manager (Data Manager) to join Dr. Gonzalo Alvarez's research group in support of the Qanuippitaa? National Inuit Health Survey (QNIHS) and the Taima TB research program.

NTI coordinates and manages Inuit responsibilities under the Nunavut Agreement and ensures that the federal and territorial governments fulfill their obligations. The management of land, water and wildlife is very important to the Inuit. NTI ensures that promises made under the Nunavut Agreement are carried out. Inuit exchanged Aboriginal title to all their traditional land in the Nunavut Settlement Area for the rights and benefits outlined in the Nunavut Agreement. NTI leads the QNIHS effort to establish a long-term, Inuit-determined research program for collecting information that informs decision-making, policies and programs and helps improve the health and wellness of Inuit in Nunavut and throughout Canada. The QNIHS will also build research capacity in Nunavut and support Inuit self-determination in research by ensuring that the survey meets the needs and priorities of Inuit in all Nunavut regions.

Dr. Alvarez, a Scientist in OHRI's Clinical Epidemiology Program and a Staff Respirologist within The Ottawa Hospital's Department of Medicine - Division of Respirology & Infections Disease, studies pulmonary health in disadvantaged populations, specifically among Canadian Inuit and in new Canadians. He has concentrated his efforts on pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) research in these populations. His Taima (means stop in Inuktitut) TB program is a group of research projects aimed at helping Inuit in Canada prevent the transmission of TB in their communities. He has recently completed several studies in Nunavut with funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Canadian High Arctic Research Station, and the Ontario Thoracic Society focused on the implementation of innovative screening, diagnostic and education tools in the remote communities of Nunavut.

The Research Program Manager (Data Manager), in partnership with the Nunavut Inuit Health Survey Steering Committee and the National Inuit Health Survey Working Group (NIHSWG), is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the QNIHS in Nunavut by ensuring that the data will be useful and actionable. Specifically, the incumbent will support the Nunavut Health Survey (NHS) Managers in developing and implementing Data Management policies and procedures, data collection, ensuring the secure storage of NHS data, administration of data access requests and disseminating the survey results. Additionally, the incumbent will support the TAIMA TB research program as required.

**Major Responsibilities**:
**Planning & Coordination**
- Support the implementation of the QNIHS in Nunavut by working closely with the NHS Managers and the NHS team
- Participate in the Data Sub-Working Group and the National Inuit Data Management Committee
- Coordinate with government and academic partners to obtain and manage historical Inuit health data
- Manage and coordinate organizational and statistical activities as they relate to the QNIHS in Nunavut
- Streamline data collection and analysis procedures
- Data entry coordination and supervision, feedback to data entry personnel regarding quality of data entry and other data entry issues
- Perform data validation, including automatic and manual data inspections, data discrepancies/deficiencies review and resolution, query generation and resolution, feedback to QNIHS teams regarding the quality of data
- Perform off-site data back-ups as needed
- Document and maintain the secure storage of NHS metadata and data
- Respond to data requests, coordinate reviews, and develop Data Sharing policies and agreements, where applicable
- Participate as a team member on analytical aspects of research projects on the QNIHS for Nunavut.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of all NHS data access requests, agreements, and reports.
- Work in close collaboration with the NHS Data Analyst on all aspects of the QNIHS Data and the IHS 2007 2008 data
- Contribute to the implementation of the National Inuit Strategy on Research in Nunavut

**Policy**
- Ensure that the collection and management of data meets or exceeds regulatory and ethical standards and respects Inuit systems and values
- Lead the development of policies, protocols, and guidelines relating to data management and access
- Advocate for the consistent production, protection, and sharing of Inuit-specific and Inuit relevant indicators and data
- Assist with the identification and prioritization of data needs and issues
- Document methodologies used to collect data and assess data quality
- Document best practices in the collection, storage and dissemination of health data
