**REPORTS TO**: National Procurement Manager

**IN CASE OF ABSENCE**:Duties would be performed by alternate Material Planner or Procurement Lead

**1. POSITION OVERVIEW**

The Material Planner will be responsible for coordinating the purchasing requirements and managing raw material and packaging inventory for their production facility. Overall duties include analyzing material demands, purchase order generation and follow up, inventory control management, and effective record keeping. Also works with and supports other business areas on cross-functional needs such as enabling sourcing and new material introduction, supply chain optimization, and adherence to food safety and quality standards.

**2. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS**
- Understand and react to requirements from Operations and Sales; order all required materials according to the planning demands and sales forecast.
- Purchase order generation and placement for all shipments of raw materials, packaging, and Operations day-to-day supplies.
- Coordinate with freight carriers and customs brokers to ensure all materials arrive in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Timely follow up of orders, expedition or management of late orders or supply disruptions, and facilitation of returns.
- Determine and maintain optimal inventory levels to facilitate production requirements while minimizing costs and achieving corporate working capital and service level objectives.
- Maintain required MRP system information like safety stock, min/max, and lead time.
- Provide regular reports to stakeholders on raw material and inventory status.
- Communicate proactively with relevant teams regarding price discrepancies, quality, supply, and service.
- Support Sales, R&D and Operations in feasibility assessments for new business opportunities.
- Support R&D in materials required for new product trials or launches.
- Support QC/QA in obtaining shelf life extensions and adhering to all food safety and regulatory guidelines and requirements.
- Maintain accurate and updated information on things like GMP documentation, HACCP supplier list, order documentation (eg. COAs), supplier non-conformances, etc.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers while maintaining confidentiality requirements.
- Coordinate/lead special projects as required; this could include complex new product launch evaluation, cost optimization opportunities, continuous improvement, and others as assigned.
- Lead physical inventory counts and audits for plant and external warehouses, as required (occasional weekend work required).

**3. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- 2-3 years of experience in a procurement and/or supply chain function.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; relevant certificate or professional designation is an asset.
- Direct working knowledge of material ordering, operations, warehouse management, inventory control, and supply chain management.
- Knowledge of computer software and systems including enterprise resource management (ERP), materials resource planning (MRP), Microsoft Office, forecasting tools, and database management; experience using SAP is an asset.
- Capability to work with internal departments, external partners, and diverse personalities in a manner that promotes positive relationships.
- Highly organized with excellent time management, priority setting, and analytical skills.
