The Department of Biology is the largest academic unit within the Faculty of Science. Throughout the academic year, the Department provides courses to over 10,500 students annually, has approximately 1400 majors and an average graduate enrollment of 165-185 students. The major foci within the department is namely scientific research, graduate, undergraduate and public education. The Department seeks to find a better working balance between the development and strengthening of its research enterprise and the maintenance of its strong undergraduate program seeking to enhance and strengthen its graduate program and make meaningful contributions to existing and future collaborative programs that fall within its sphere of influence and interest. The Department is housed in six main buildings (B&GS, WSC, Collip, NCB, AFAR, and Biotron).

**Responsibilities**:
The role of the Curator of the Zoological Museum Collections is to manage, care for, and curate the Department of Biology research and teaching collection of animal specimens. Duties include: 1) curate the collection (identify specimens; organize the specimens in the collection according to current peer-reviewed, published biological classification; maintain the collection including pest management) 2) manage, develop and add to Museum databases 3) manage incoming/outgoing loans, receive donations and accession specimens into collection 4) develop Museum policy 5) oversee volunteer and work study students 6) perform various University and community outreach functions.

The Curator of the Zoological Museum will perform a wide range of administrative duties to support the Collections, will serve as a principal source of information regarding the Zoological Museum and its functions, and will anticipate and resolve issues. The Curator will communicate and build relationships with a range of internal and external contacts.

**NOTE: This position is expected to be filled internally by reappointment.
- Qualifications**Education**:
- M.Sc. Degree in Zoology or equivalent zoological experience, Ph.D. preferred

**Experience**:
- 2 years' of museum experience working with animal specimens and data management

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Knowledge of best museum curatorial practices
- Knowledge of animal taxonomy and phylogeny based on current, peer-reviewed scientific publications
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Ability to foster collaboration and respect among team members
- Excellent written and oral communication skills interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
- Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
