Curling Ice Technician

**About the Position**
Your primary purpose is to ensure excellence in ice quality and customer experience within the SLSC Curling Centre, including day-to-day ice maintenance, curling centre operations, and facility preparation for all curling events and bookings. We are looking for hard working individuals with a positive attitude, a strong sense of customer service, and the ability to work effectively with a team. This position will take day-to-day direction from the Head Ice Technician under the formal supervision of the Curling Supervisor.

**Job Type**:Part-time, Hourly, Seasonal (ending April 2025)
**Availability Required**: 12-30 hours per week on a flexible schedule aligned with bonspiels and events - primarily evenings & weekend shifts

**Specific responsibilities**:

- Responsible for maintenance of curling ice: executing tasks according to schedules and timelines as directed by the Curling Supervisor and Head Ice Technician to ensure great ice conditions for all leagues and bonspiels.
- Safely use necessary equipment, as trained, to complete ice maintenance tasks.
- Perform non-mechanical maintenance as required to operate curling facility.
- Greet Curling Centre users and assist in the general facilitation of bookings, events, leagues and bonspiels.
- Assist other curling staff in all areas of Curling Centre operations and cleaning.
- Complete cleaning tasks as assigned on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Assist where required in the installation and removal of ice.
- Responsible for housekeeping of front end that the public sees (washrooms and locker rooms, multi - use rooms, dressing rooms, stands, hallways and grounds). This may include snow removal on sidewalks.
- Interact and communicate effectively with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, employees, and customers.
- Always maintain a professional appearance.
- Responsible for completing tasks with a Health & Safety focus, and using proper PPE where required.
- Carry communication device at all times and be available to respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Perform all work with proper safety procedures in mind to ensure a safe environment for the individual themselves and the general building population.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience in curling or arena operations is an asset (but not required - on the job training will be provided).
- Must have a strong work ethic, self-directed initiative, and be able to prioritize tasks to ensure the best possible experience for our Curling Centre users.
- Ability to get results, meet timelines, be proactive in a customer friendly approach
- Dedicated to ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment
- Must have a strong “safety sense” (comfort working on/around ice and using equipment)
- Level 1 Curling certificate an asset, but not required
- A clear criminal record check is required on hire
- Standard First Aid & CPR-C is required, but can be provided during employment
- WHMIS training will be provided during employment
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including standing for an extended period, walking (on ice), lifting (up to 50lbs), and performing repetitive motion.
- Proper footwear will be required for this position, at minimum you will be required to wear a pair of indoor, rubber soled shoes that must not be worn outside
