**Recreation Assistant**
**Please note this is a casual position**
**SCOPE**:
To plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the Activity Programs in accordance with current federal, provincial and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Site Manager, to ensure that the emotional, recreational and social needs of the residents are met and maintained on an individual basis.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Must be a graduate of Recreational diploma or certificate program from a recognized school
- Demonstrated administrative, leadership, team-building and organizational skills
- Patience, tact, enthusiasm and positive attitude toward the elderly
**JOB FUNCTIONS**:
Quality Assurance:
- Assist in identifying and monitoring the spiritual, social, recreational and emotional needs of the residents through routine interviews, visits and consultations with residents and their families
- Ensure that nursing supervisors assist residents with selection of activities in compliance with physicians’ orders and encourage patients to develop physical and educational skills through participation in activities
- Develop and maintain rapport with all services to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing activities for all residents; participate in teams and committees
Care Planning:
- Assist in developing for each resident preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the recreation needs and written creative care plans that identify the needs of the residents and the goals to be accomplished for each need identified
- Ensure that all recreation personnel are aware of the care plans and that care plans are used in providing daily services to the residents
Planning and Inventory:
- Recommend to the Site Manager the equipment, material and supply needs for the activities programs
- Assist in developing and monitoring adequate and cost effective inventory control procedures
- Forecast needs of the department and assist in preparing and planning the budget for the activities programs and submit to the Site Manager for review
**RESIDENT RIGHTS & CONFIDENTIALITY**
Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect; know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; monitor activities to ensure that residents’ emotional, recreational and social needs are met; and, review, promptly report to the Site Manager and maintain written records of all resident complaints and grievances.

As per the GSS Immunization of Workers for COVID-19 Policy (for Alberta) and the Provincial Health Officer order for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination (for BC), all employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment. All offers of employment will be conditional on the applicant providing proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccination requires a government-issued QR Code or document confirming COVID-19 vaccination.
- **COVID-19 Immunization**:_Proof of full immunization against COVID-19. Full immunization status is achieved when 14 days have passed after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine, or the first dose of a single-dose vaccine.
