To be eligible, youth must:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment

Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

United for Literacy (formally Frontier College) is a national, non-profit literacy organization which was founded in 1899. We believe literacy is a right. We work with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential and contribute to society.

We are seeking a mature and dedicated individual to develop and deliver literacy supports within the
Niagara area. Our programs will include literacy and English language classes for Seasonal Agricultural
Workers. This position will focus on delivering adult literacy programs to Seasonal Agricultural Workers both on-site at the farms as well as through community partners and organizations. These courses will take place both in-person and online. Applicants should possess a keen interest in community development work and/or literacy and teaching to fill the position. Outreach Workers will explore program delivery and resource sharing via the following avenues:

- In-person on-site at farms and greenhouses
- In-person at libraries and other community sites
- Social media
- Online apps / platforms
- and/or the delivery of learning activity kits

**Overall Accountability**
This position is part of United for Literacy’s Southwestern Ontario regional team and reports to the
Outreach Program Coordinator. The Literacy Outreach Workers will work independently and collaboratively to deliver literacy programs to Seasonal Agricultural Workers in the Niagara area. As the
Adult Literacy Outreach Worker, you will represent United for Literacy in these regions throughout the duration of the contract.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**
- Identify and contact potential program sites.
- Review past program reports to determine the impact, strengths, and areas to improve.
- Work with United for Literacy staff to design and deliver an engaging, educational program for Seasonal Agricultural Workers.
- Advertise and promote programming throughout the region.
- Participate in regular team meetings.
- Instruct in-person courses.
- Facilitate and create learning materials for asynchronous online English courses as needed.
- Teach synchronous online English courses.
- Post educational material on social media.
- Communicate regularly with learners.
- Where needed, create, and deliver learning activity kits.
- Liaise with program partners including libraries, farmers, community organizations, and other community members to ensure effective program delivery, and to deal with issues as they arise.
- Track learner attendance.
- Collect feedback from learners and program partners including pictures and testimonials.
- Conduct a brief evaluation of the program and prepare a detailed final report for use by United for Literacy and program funders.

**Skills, Attributes, and Requirements**
- **A valid driver’s license, and access to a vehicle is essential.**:

- **Teaching/Tutoring experience.**:

- Some post-secondary education.
- Experience with community development and volunteer organizations.
- Experience working with multi-cultural populations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite, Excel, social media platforms, and Zoom
- Strong written communication skills.
- Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work to high standards unsupervised and to take initiative.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to be flexible in different teaching environments, including online instruction.
- Proof of full COVID vaccination will be required to do in-person work with United for Literacy, and all successful applicants will need to complete a police record check.

**Additional Assets**
- Ability to speak Spanish
- Experience working with English Language Learners

**Compensation**:$15.65 per hour
