**Metis Child, Family & Community Services (MCFCS) Agency** is a mandated child and family services agency with the responsibility to administer and provide culturally relevant community-based child protection and support services for Metis and Inuit people in Manitoba. Metis Child, Family and Community Services and our entire Métis CFS System is evolving and shifting our practices to be ready for the exciting changes that will be coming as a result of the new Federal Act. We have launched and expanded on some very important initiatives that include welcoming family to be at the center of our practice where they participate in planning and decision-making as we walk alongside them on their healing journey.
The Metis Community Addiction Response Team Program (Metis CART) is a wraparound program that walks alongside parents who struggle with their relationship with substances and supports the family in ways that will allow their children to live with them safely.
Our Metis Connect Program has seen great success connecting children and youth to their extended families, community and culture as well as making it possible for parents to get the extra family/ community support they need to go home safely with their babies at birth and/or reunify safely with their children again. We believe in planning around the kitchen table rather than the boardroom table. This has also allowed our agency to expand its own Kinship Care program while meeting with families.

**SKILLS FOR LIFE WORKER**
**FULL-TIME, PERMANENT**
Position: Skills for Life Worker
Competition #: MCFCS-SFL-2023.037
Hours of Work: 7.25 hours per day
Classification and Salary: HS1 $23.88 - $28.26 per hour
Location: Winnipeg, MB
The Skills for Life Worker is responsible for mentoring and coaching youth in care to practice and achieve the Skills for Life required to live successfully on their own. This role is accomplished within the framework of the established Skills for Life Program and as part of a cohesive Team with other Skills for Life workers, the Metis Spirit Worker and other agency workers. It is the responsibility of every position to provide, where requested culturally relevant service or assist with access to such service.
**Main areas of Key Responsibilities and Activities**
Support and guide youth to identify their current level of skill and establish goals for achieving Life Skills utilizing the Skills for Life Program tools and processes. Program areas covered include: assistance with time management skills, guidance through the justice system, comparative shopping, setting goals, budgeting, completing weekly budgets, employment search, menu planning, safety planning, acquiring important documents, community resources, goal setting, banking and bill payment etc.
This work is done in close collaboration with agency workers and other significant individuals involved with the youth.
- Assists youth to set and attain personal, spiritual, and educational goals.
- Responds to and supports youth in developing skills to deal with crisis situations.
- Assists youth in securing safe personal residence.
- Prepares youth for independent living, e.g., screening potential roommates, being responsible for rental payment and home upkeep.
**Education and Experience**
- Post Secondary certificate, diploma or degree in Social Sciences
- Three years experience working directly with families and children
- Experience working with Metis and Inuit people.
- Current non-violent crisis intervention, ASSIST, First Aid and CPR be an asset
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Demonstrated understanding of Metis and Inuit culture and communities
- Familiarity with the “Strength Based Focused” approach
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to develop collateral relationships with internal and external partners
- Ability to work within the guidelines of an established program
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
**Prior to commencing employment the successful applicant will be asked to provide satisfactory results of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check and a Driver’s Abstract upon hire at their own expense. A valid Manitoba driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle are requisites as travel within and outside the city are required.**
