Intervale Associates is seeking a Conservation Biologist for fall 2023 - March 2024 (possibility of extension to 2026 or beyond) with stewardship experience to coordinate a new initiative aimed at engaging people in the conservation of unique limestone habitats of the Great Northern Peninsula and the protection of its rare and at-risk species of plants and animals.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Work with partners and other groups to develop, implement, and evaluate a stewardship strategy and stewardship activities for the limestone barrens and other habitats of the limestone landscape, including travel throughout the Northern Peninsula.
- Build awareness, knowledge, appreciation, engagement, and the adoption of best practices.
- Collect information and data in the field, upload to databases, and document through photographs.
- Create engaging content for social media, newsletters, websites, and print media.
- Make presentations and give workshops and tours to people of various ages and backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively to supervisor, advisors, funders, and project partners.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required (e.g., assisting other projects).
**Requirements**:
- **Minimum 1 year of full-time experience with environmental stewardship programs, or a relevant post-secondary degree or diploma.**:
- Knowledge of the Great Northern Peninsula; appreciation for rural Newfoundland, its culture and traditions.
- Organizational skills including maintaining schedules, meeting deadlines, collecting and sorting data, and an ability to work independently and without frequent supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate positive relationships with residents and interest groups from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Skill and efficiency in using Microsoft Office; GIS skills are assets.
- Strong oral and written communication skills as described above.
- Driver’s license and vehicle access. Ability to drive and work in a variety of weather conditions. Willingness to travel alone.
- Willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends or to travel over a period of a few days.
- Ability to walk over rough terrain and up to 15 km. Skill in operating an ATV and a snowmobile is an asset.
**Salary**: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
