**POLICY DEVELOPMENT INTERN**

The Nickel District Conservation Authority (o/a Conservation Sudbury) is one of Ontario’s 36 watershed-based local government agencies. Our area of jurisdiction includes the watersheds of the
Wanapitei, Vermilion and Whitefish Rivers. We provide important planning and development services, primarily within the City of Greater Sudbury, in a total watershed area of approximately
9150 square kilometres.

The Policy Development Intern will work with Regulations and Planning Officers to support the regulatory and planning programs, primarily in accordance with _Ontario Regulation 156/06_. The
Policy development intern will have an integral role in filling policy gaps. They will be responsible for collecting information, analyzing and providing recommendations to the team.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from a post-secondary program in planning, resource management, environmental or earth sciences, geography, public administration or related fields
- Must be able to comprehend technical documents
- Experience conducting literature reviews and/or writing policy briefs; ability to research, analyze, synthesize information and summarize findings
- Ability to understand applicable laws, regulations, policies and objectives
- Ability to manage projects and/or project components
- Experience writing and editing materials for publication and presentation
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in team setting.
- Excellent command of the Microsoft Office suite

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct research on policy options and technical guidelines to fill various policy gaps
- Analyze policy options and technical information and provide recommendations
- Coordinate internal meetings and present findings on a bi-weekly basis
- Receive and incorporate feedback from regulations and planning staff
- Create guidance documents and other public-facing products
- Support other projects of the regulations and planning department, including public consultation and data analysis
- Additional assignments pertinent to the position

**EMPLOYMENT TERMS**

This is a one-year position with a six-month probationary period.

The primary work location is the Conservation Sudbury office, 401-199 Larch Street, Sudbury. We offer a flexible work week of 35 hours, Monday to Friday. Following the probationary period, the position allows for a hybrid work schedule allowing up to 6 days out of 10 to be completed out of the office setting.

**COMPENSATION**:$26/hour, plus vacation accruing at 4%
