LCS Summer Academy is currently recruiting for Overnight Camp Counsellors to join our team.

With 145 years of outdoor education experience, LCS Summer Academy provides fun and challenging programs for campers ages 4 to 18. Each program is full of opportunities to learn in and through the outdoors on our 315-acre waterfront campus. **Position Summary**:
Reporting to the House Life Coordinator under the Director, LCS Summer Academy & Ancillary Programs, the Overnight Counsellor(s) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive experience of campers. They are responsible for overnight supervision, implementing house protocols, and fostering a supportive environment for both campers and staff. Overnight counsellors will plan and facilitate a variety of evening activities and offer active supervision during quiet time. The Overnight Counsellor is integral to the success of the LCS Summer Academy, contributing to the holistic development and well-being of students through thoughtful programming, supervision, and support.

**Position Responsibilities**

Camp Operations and Safety:

- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students and fellow staff by implementing comprehensive safety protocols and maintaining constant vigilance.
- Supervise activities, including evening study hall sessions, ensuring a supportive and productive learning environment.
- Foster a comfortable, respectful, and fun residential community atmosphere where campers feel supported and valued.
- Serve as a role model and mentor to campers, promoting positive values, inclusivity, and teamwork throughout all interactions and activities.
- Assist in the delivery of imaginative and age-appropriate activity programs for students enrolled in the LCS Summer Academy, ensuring engagement and enjoyment.
- Supervise non-academic activities in collaboration with Coordinators and co-counsellors, offering expertise and guidance in specialised areas.
- Engage actively in the planning and execution of non-academic activities, ensuring they are safe, enjoyable, and enriching experiences for all campers.
- Demonstrate strengths, skills, and/or certifications in at least one of the following areas:

- Waterfront activities (such as stand-up paddle boarding, sailing, swimming, canoeing, etc.)
- Outdoor campus activities (e.g., high & low ropes courses, climbing wall, tennis, beach volleyball)
- Northcote activities (e.g., wilderness skills, regenerative farming skills)

**Qualifications**
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (completed 2024)
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents in an overnight setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities.
- Experience with teaching English Language Learners considered an asset
- Current certifications/qualifications (or received by the time they arrive at camp) in the following:

- Standard First Aid and CPR C/AED (required)
- Bronze Cross Certification (required); NLS certification preferred
- Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator Licence an asset
- Mental Health First Aid or equivalent an asset
- Ropes course and climbing wall certifications an asset
- ORCKA Instructor certifications an asset
