**Job Summary**
- University Libraries support and advance learning and research endeavors by providing collections, facilities and services that expedite access to the world’s information and knowledge. Reporting to the Manager, Acquisitions and Content Management, the Library Services Assistant performs technical and administrative duties to support the timely and efficient acquisitions of library resources in support of the University’s goals in teaching, learning and research. Working in Resources the role primarily performs technical and administrative duties in the acquisition of library resources and collections maintenance. The job also entails supporting Access Services on front line single service points, document delivery, library projects and digital initiatives, and as required covering staff absences at the other Dalhousie University Library locations.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Performs resource acquisition and subscription maintenance, including work with vendors in the ordering, licensing, receiving/activating, and renewal of all library materials.
- Creates and maintains bibliographic, holdings, and item records. Ensures the accuracy of the institution’s electronic inventory and resource activation. Responsible for metadata quality and control of library records.
- Communicates with internal and external stakeholders to clarify status of requests, orders and payments in a timely manner. Resolves problems and answers questions from requestors and other library staff.
- Process and track invoices in accordance with Financial Services guidelines.
- Actively creates and updates workflow documentation, and participates in process developments.
- Performs Access Services functions, including circulation duties and handling inquiries from diverse patrons with varying levels of knowledge (e.g. students, faculty, researchers, and the general public).

**Note**
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Library & Information Technology diploma plus one to two years of library service experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Excellent communication, time management skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with the public and to multi-task.
- Basic knowledge of library resource management and cataloguing (RDA, Library of Congress classification and MARC), experience searching and using library databases and electronic resources, an aptitude for using a variety of software programs, and familiarity with library service platforms.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong computer skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, and to adapt to changing procedures and technologies.
- Demonstrated initiative, with a willingness to share expertise and work in diverse teams.

**Assets**
- Knowledge of or experience in library acquisitions or resource management operations.
