The Public Health Division (PH) works in collaboration with Alberta Health Services, public health officials provincially and across the country, as well as other partners, to provide strategic direction and leadership through the assessment, development and implementation of provincial policies, regulations, strategies, and standards related to communicable diseases, immunization, environmental public health, chronic disease and injury prevention, health promotion, wellness, emergency preparedness, response and recovery, and Indigenous health policy. The division carries out these functions to support innovation and engagement with Albertans in wellness, health promotion, and injury and disease prevention.

The Health & Wellness Promotions Branch
- Provides strategic direction and leadership in development of provincial policy in the following areas:

- Communicable Disease Control;
- Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infection;
- Immunization;
- Health Promotion;
- Promotion of population wellness and health equity;
- Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Development;
- Injury Prevention;
- School, Community and Workplace Wellness;
- Healthy Eating;
- Physical Activity;
- Chronic Condition/Disease Prevention (including cancer); and
- Population Health Screening (including cancer).

**Role**:
Reporting to the Director, Primary Prevention & Wellness, the Manager, Prevention and Screening will be responsible for results that have an impact on the wellness of Albertans and the development and implementation of provincial and national strategies.

This role will lead population and public health policy and provincial strategies focused on cancer prevention, population based screening programs, tobacco and vaping prevention, reduction and cessation, and cannabis.

You will be responsible for the direct supervision of policy analysts that lead matters related to various public health functions, including grant management. Your strong leadership skills will benefit the development of policy and relationships with stakeholders with cultural competency, recognizing the fundamental principle of health equity.

This role will represent provincial perspectives on interprovincial and national committees. Senior and executive ministry leaders rely on the Manager to provide analysis and recommendations to facilitate well-informed decision making.

The Manager will advise on governance structures that build a strong foundation for public health within various settings, including communities, workplaces, and schools.

To be successful in this role, you should have knowledge of emerging wellness issues, strategies and theories, planning processes, project management, change management, stakeholder engagement and leadership capabilities.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (Health Sciences, Public Health, and Business Administration) and three years related experience is required.

The following skills are required:

- Experience working with senior officials of provincial ministries and local authorities; and
- Leadership/supervisory experience.

Preferences will be given to those with:

- Project management experience;
- Extensive knowledge of government policy development and planning processes;
- Knowledge of tobacco and vaping prevention, reduction and cessation policy;
- Familiarity with population-based cancer screening program management;
- Understanding of cannabis legislation and public health matters related to cannabis;
- Public Health related experience; and
- Experience with grant management.

The following are considered assets:

- Graduate degree in a related field (e.g. Masters of Public Health)

$3,100.80 to $4,172.77 bi-weekly ($80,930 - $108,909 / year)
