**Job Summary**
- The Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University is a small research-intensive campus located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies. Reporting to the Chair, Department of Animal Science & Aquaculture, the Assistant Aquaculture Technician will assist the Operations Technician in fish husbandry, fish health and water quality monitoring, and preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and systems.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Operate and maintain the mechanical components of freshwater/seawater, compressed air, and oxygen delivery systems throughout the facility. This includes pumps, compressors, pneumatic control valves, heat exchangers, steam and oxygen generators, and mechanical and ultraviolet filters.
- Provide technical support in the necessary monitoring, operation, and maintenance of recirculation and flow-through systems in the unit.
- Utilize various methods to measure and manipulate physical and chemical parameters critical for maintaining good water quality in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (e.g. temperature, salinity, pH, and various gases).
- Feed and care for fish, including monitoring end points to ensure a high level of ethical care, performing biological checks, and recording data.
- Monitor electronic controls and alarm systems. This includes responding to emergency on-call situations.
- Monitor and record seawater usage.

**Note**
- This position operates on a rotating on-call schedule, Monday through Sunday including holidays. The incumbent is required to respond to after-hour emergencies, and be on-site within 30 minutes.**

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Diploma in Aquaculture with approximately two years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience in fish husbandry and demonstrated understanding of fish health and aquaculture water quality requirements.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving skills and initiative.
- Good communication (verbal and written) and teamwork skills.
- This position has above average physical demands including crouching in small spaces, lifting, pushing and pulling; standing for extended periods; and exposure to dust, chemicals, noise and temperature changes.
