Inspector, Emissions Management - Hybrid

The Opportunity

The Emissions Management team is a dynamic group of professionals in the Compliance & Liability Management branch. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the transformation of the way we manage air emissions associated with all aspects of oil, oil sands, and natural gas development in Alberta. We ensure the implementation and maintenance of the air emissions framework is achieved through regulatory development, stakeholder engagement, surveillance, and related enforcement process activities.

This role is responsible for conducting province-wide air and emissions compliance assurance activities (inspections, detailed operational assessments, education activities, etc.) in alignment with the Branch Operational Plan. You will engage industry regarding areas of concern. This role also involves engaging industry regarding areas of concern, communicating provincial issues to AER leadership, surveillance program leaders/teams, and representing the AER in stakeholder forums, hearings, and alternative dispute resolutions.

What your day-to-day will look like:- Support the development, maintenance, and administration of air emissions procedure manuals, training manuals. Train inspectors across Alberta. Demonstrate the AER’s commitment to Safety and applicable provincial statutory safety requirements to achieve a safe work environment.- Respond to and support others in handling incidents and stakeholder complaints. Support the resolution of complex complaints between AER stakeholders.- Communicate and consult with industry regarding areas of concern. Lead meetings and deliver technical presentations to industry and government agencies. Participate in synergy groups and at open houses.-
- Support the design of leading-edge information measurement, reporting and information management/performance reporting relating to emissions and conservation efforts. Support Research and Innovation programs (i.e. research, testing, verifications, and pilots).- Prepare correspondence and inspection reports and perform follow up action as required or forwarding the non-compliance item for possible enforcement action to an investigator.- Identify emerging issues and trends, conduct environmental scans and communicate findings to senior management.

What we’re looking for in you:
- Engineering Technologist Diploma, applied science degree, or other relevant education.- 5-7 years of direct experience of emissions and inspections.- Experience conducting stack testing, emission measurement, and sampling.- Knowledge and experience with air emissions, monitoring, modelling, reporting and emission controls.- Familiarity and knowledge of regulatory requirements.- Communication skills both written and verbal, paired with exceptional interpersonal skills.- Ability to work independently and with a team. Ability to plan and think strategically.- Willingness to travel and conduct facility inspections independently in remote areas of Alberta.

Additional Requirements:
- Pre-placement Medical is required.- Possess a fully valid class 5 driver’s license along with a positive driving record.- Required physical demands: must be able to lift over 30 lbs.- Additional training is required and can be provided: ex) First Aid, H2S Alive, Driver Training.- Ability to work all outdoor working weather conditions.- This role provides province wide inspections and requires extensive travel and potentially long durations away from home, as well as office-based work to support technical development and ASET/APEGA designation. Approximately, 60% of the time will be spent in the field.
