The Legal Services Division is looking for Legal Officers at the LO1-LO3 classification levels to join one of our solicitor-focused legal teams that support one or more government client departments. We are currently looking for lawyers to join the following legal teams:

- **The Central Services Legal Team** which provides legal and strategic services to Treasury Board and Finance (TBF), Agriculture and Irrigation, Indigenous Relations, and Culture. This role would primarily advise TBF on taxation, insurance and pension matters as well as on procurement and contracts and on legislative development and interpretation.
- **The Energy Law Team** which provides specialized legal advisory/solicitor services on energy-related matters, including royalty and tenure, and energy and electricity regulation.
- **The Infrastructure/Transportation and Economic Corridors Legal Team** which provides legal services that include specialized procurements including P3 projects, land acquisition and management, support for specialized construction projects, and construction claims.
- **The Justice and Public Safety and Emergency Services (PSES) Legal Team** which provides legal and strategic advice and services to its client departments, including the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the Chief Provincial Firearms Office and the Law Enforcement Review Board. Justice and PSES Legal Team lawyers also lead major legislative reform initiatives.
- **The Municipal, Education and Service Alberta (MESA) Legal Team** which provides a full range of solicitor services including advice on Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act compliance, complex IT procurements, and IT system operations and risk management (including cybersecurity). This Team also provides emergency response advice to the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, and provides opinions and administrative law advice to the Departments of Municipal Affairs and Education, including with respect to the teacher discipline process.

**Role continued**:

- **The Trade, Innovation and Post-secondary Legal Team** which provides advice regarding compliance with domestic and international trade agreements, and advice on contracts, grants, and research and innovation initiatives. This Team also supports agencies, boards and commissions within its client areas, and advises on new legislation initiatives.
- **The Seniors, Community and Social Services/Children’s Services (SCSS/CS) Legal Team** which provides legal, legislative and related strategic advice and support to its two GoA client departments. Some of the Team’s key areas of responsibility include child care licensing, child Intervention, homeless and violence prevention shelters, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) and other income support, and housing and seniors benefits and programs.
- **The Constitutional and Aboriginal Law (CAL) Team** which provides advisory services to all GoA departments on a variety of constitutional and aboriginal law matters, including federal/provincial division of powers, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Alberta Bill of Rights, unwritten constitutional principles and conventions, aboriginal and treaty rights, and the Crown’s duty to consult aboriginal peoples. The CAL Team also provides negotiation and solicitor services (contract negotiation/drafting) to support treaty land entitlement matters, coordination agreements, and provincial land development transactions on First Nation reserve lands.
