**Job Title: CHILD AND YOUTH WORKER**

**Reporting To: Program Manager (LIT)**

**Job Type: 1 year contract with possible extension**

Child and Youth Worker is to provide care and supervision according to the agreed to treatment plan for adolescents, individually and in groups and guide them in day-to-day activities. The CYW I is to work as part of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the success of the clients within our program.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- CYW Diploma or a recognized equivalent training program such as a degree or diploma in Psychological/Social Sciences
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sectors Screening
- Valid Class G driver’s license with acceptable driving record and three years of experience as an insured driver.
- Valid Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviours (UMAB) Certification
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR Certification
- Knowledge of KIDS/ChYMH

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Duties for Live-In Treatment Programs**
- Create and maintain a safe and secure environment.
- To follow as closely as possible the established consistent structure and expectations of the program.
- Perform household duties, such as grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and minor repairs, with and for the clients.
- Record incident reports, daily logs, serious occurrence reporting, petty cash, communication logs and fire safety reports as per legislation and policy.
- With Supervisor, participate in planning of activities and menus within the specific program budget.
- Teach life skills such as anger management, adaptive coping skills, conflict resolution, problem-solving and personal hygiene.
- Implement counseling skills such as encouraging, nurturing, expression and validation of feelings, challenging, confronting, care giving, directing and behavioural modeling.
- Dispense medication(s) as prescribed by a physician, following proper procedure and reporting requirements.
- Advocate for youth where necessary.
- Attend clinical meetings as required to review the clients serviced within the program.
- Intervene using UMAB and/or First Aid, as required and according to procedures
- May be assigned as a Primary Worker when required and deemed appropriate (see CYW II for details).

**PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT**:

- In conjunction with supervisor, participate in regular supervision sessions and an annual performance evaluation.
- Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings.
- Attend and participate in In-Service training as scheduled and required and attend recommended professional development opportunities
- Maintain certification in UMAB and Standard First Aid.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**:

- Work is performed in various program settings such as a live-in treatment setting, vehicle, and classroom setting or in the community.
- Work hours and schedules are set by the Program Manager and may involve rotating shift work. 40 hour work week with rotating shifts as averaged over live-in treatment schedule (Live-In Treatment)/37.5 hour work week as approved by manager (Day Treatment).
- Requirement to drive agency vehicle as necessary.
- **Up-to-date immunizations, including full vaccination for COVID-19 or valid medical/human rights exemption.**
