**Role**:
We are looking for a qualified professional who can lead a team of heritage conservation experts responsible for conserving Alberta’s protected historic places.

The Manager of Heritage Conservation Advisory Services is responsible for programming that manages changes to designated historic resources in the province while safeguarding heritage values. The program is accountable for providing technical building conservation and planning advice to a diverse range of public and private stakeholders, integrated with financial incentives, with the aim of preserving Alberta's built heritage and ensuring compliance with the legislative provisions of the Historical Resources Act. The position leads and coaches a team of heritage conservation professionals working with a wide range historic resource types that present unique technical problems in routinely challenging situations. To be effective in the role, the position must balance the constraints of legislation and heritage preservation obligations with client needs. The work of this position requires proficiency in conflict resolution and ensuring responsive processes are in place to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes.

**Qualifications**:
A university graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by at least four years of progressively responsible experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. Expert knowledge of at least one of: architecture, historic resource management, heritage preservation technology or heritage conservation planning.

Preferences/Assets:

- Knowledge of historic resources management principles, practices, and legislation at the municipal, provincial and federal levels as well as in other Canadian provinces/territories and in other countries.
- Working knowledge of the federal and Alberta building codes and processes required for mitigating impacts of code requirements on the adaptive re-use of historic buildings.
- Expert knowledge of traditional and modern building materials, fabrication practices, trades, and construction techniques.
- General knowledge of the range of disciplines involved in the management of historic resources, such as the history of architecture and design and Western Canadian history.
- Knowledge of the programs and policies of the Historic Places Partnership Program, of comparable funding programs in other countries, and of heritage incentive programs and possible correlations with heritage conservation programming in Alberta.
- Demonstrated success leading staff and working with all levels of government, professionals, and the public.
- Strong leadership, planning, project management, consultation, and organizational skills.
- Strong mediation and negotiation skills.
- Superior verbal and written communication and listening skills.
