Ottawa, Canada Hillel Lodge Long Term Care Home Full time

Reporting to the Director of Social Work, Programs, and Support Services, the **Spiritual Care & Cultural Diversity Program Manager** will coordinate chaplaincy, spiritual living, cultural and religious activities for Jewish and non-Jewish residents. The position's focus is to improve the quality of life for individuals and groups experiencing spiritual, moral, and existential distress related to changes in health, maturation, ability, and life circumstances. The incumbent will use a holistic, relational approach to assess the nature and extent of the concerns; collaboratively develop a plan of care; provide therapeutic interventions to promote, maintain, and restore health and/or palliate illness and injury; and evaluate the implementation of the plan of care to ensure its efficacy.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Assist all residents in continuing their lifelong religious and spiritual practices by**:

- Introducing available spiritual care services to new residents
- Completing an assessment of spiritual care and religious needs for each resident based on initial recreation assessment
- Facilitating contact with the resident’s faith group and clergy as appropriate
- Maintaining a list of clergy for frontline staff to call on residents’ behalf in times of need
- Coordinating religious services or faith-traditions as appropriate
- Providing spiritual care support to residents and families in times of illness, grief, and palliation as appropriate
- Develop and organize individual and group programs in support of residents’ religious and spiritual needs

**Lead Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)**:

- Establishing a program of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion for all stakeholders (residents, staff, families, care partners, visitors, etc.) of Hillel Lodge
- Developing and delivering programming and stakeholder education to support Equity, Diversity & Inclusion goals
- are informed by education in religion, spirituality, and the social sciences.;
- follow ethical standards; and
- consider human diversity, and the range of human traditions.

**Lead Hillel Lodge’s Judaic mission to provide compassionate long-term care that empowers residents to lead full and engaged lives in a welcoming Jewish environment by**:

- Leading all Jewish/spiritual care programming in conjunction with the recreation department - the daily, Sabbath, and holiday religious services including but not limited to:

- Large group programs for holidays, festivities, cultural events, and other programs with a spiritual living and religious theme
- Spiritual education opportunities, including, but not limited to, Torah studies, book clubs, one-on-one study sessions
- Supporting the Rabbi to ensure the smooth functioning of the Jewish religious services at Hillel Lodge.
- Co-leading quarterly memorial services for residents, staff, and families
- Ensuring the Synagogue is prepared for weekly services and Holy Day services
- Ensuring religious articles, artifacts, and books (i.e. - psalms books, Torah scrolls, shofars, siddurim, Judaica) owned by Hillel Lodge are safeguarded and in good order
- Developing and maintaining relationships with Rabbis from various Jewish denominations
- Providing staff education and training of the Jewish religion and traditions to ensure all staff roles and responsibilities are clearly understood in relation to Jewish/Halakhic observance and spirituality
- Sending out instructions to staff on guidance for holidays
- Performing any other duties as required that are necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the residents, staff, volunteers and visitors and the efficient operation of the Home

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor or Master’s degree in divinity, religious studies, theology, or Jewish studies
- Certified Spiritual Care Coordinator preferred
- Three years experience providing spiritual care and chaplaincy to vulnerable populations
- Experience and training to provide religious programming to diverse residents with varied spiritual and religious beliefs / Experience developing, planning, facilitating spiritual care and religious programming
- Requires in-depth knowledge of the practices and traditions of the Jewish religion and possess the skills to direct and provide various Jewish learning activities in the home
- Expert, intimate knowledge and real lived experience of Jewish religion, customs, and culture
- Supportive of Hillel Lodge’s mission and adherence to Jewish principles
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and guidance
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of the long-term care population/experience working with seniors
- Skills, knowledge, and aptitude to provide counselling services, education services, and end of life services to both Jewish and non-Jewish residents
