Canada North Environmental Services (CanNorth) is an established First Nation-owned environmental services firm with an impeccable track record and a highly respected reputation. CanNorth has a strong foundation and proven expertise in environmental assessments and environmental monitoring and is looking to increase its capacity in the Physical Sciences Division.
**Responsibilities**:
- Conducting desktop soil screenings.
- Completing pre-disturbance soil surveys using the Canadian System of Soil Classification.
- Implementing reclamation plans and evaluating reclamation success, with a focus on landscapes and soils.
- Collecting high-quality data, interpreting laboratory analytical results, and preparing technical reports.
- Providing soil support during construction activities (e.g., soil salvage planning and monitoring, verifying two, three-lift areas, biosecurity protocols, soil sampling for clubroot, and prescribing soil conservation and mitigation measures).
- Assisting Project Managers in aspects of project planning and execution.
**Requirements**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental or biological sciences, with a focus on soil science and/or reclamation.
- Minimum of three to five years of relevant previous experience completing work in consulting or related industry.
- Proficiency in soil classification using the Canadian System of Soil Classification.
- Foundational knowledge in one of more soil science disciplines (e.g., genesis, classification, chemistry, physics, ecology).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Be willing/able to be away for extended periods of time (up to several weeks).
Applicants should have working knowledge of soil sampling and analytical techniques, best management practices, provincial and federal regulations, codes, and standards. Must have superior communication skills, be dedicated to high-quality results, and be able to correspond with colleagues in a professional way. Direct experience completing baseline soil surveys is considered an asset, as is experience on linear developments (e.g., oil/gas pipelines or transmission lines). Certification in First Aid, Ground Disturbance Supervision, and past experience operating a variety of field equipment (e.g., trucks, trailers, ATVs, UTVs) is also considered part of a good foundation.
