**ABOUT THE POSITION**

The Controller is a key member of the administrative team reporting to the Director of Finance. The Controller will be responsible for reviewing and providing continuous improvement of controls and processes, while ensuring successful month and year-end reporting. The controller is instrumental in all corporate business reporting, filings, and fiscal accountability.

**Responsibilities**:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to
- Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day accounting and financial functions of the company.
- Lead the operations of the finance department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll.
- Provide guidance and advice to senior administration.
- Point of contact with third parties such as bank manager, accountants, suppliers, leasing company.
- **Cash Flow Management**:

- Responsible for monitoring daily account balances and monthly reconciliations.
- Prepare projections for monthly cash flow needs.
- Manage investments balances and maturity dates.
- **Financial Reporting**
- Prepare draft financial statements.
- Prepare annual budget.
- Work with external accounting firm for annual year end review, preparation of financial statements and filing of annual income tax return.
- Filing other regulatory reports as necessary, such as annual T4 Summary and EHT return.
- **Daily Accounting**
- Supervise Accounts Receivable function.
- Work with Accounts Payable administrator to manage payment of invoices.
- Ensure record systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensure compliance with tax law and financial regulations.
- Perform/review account reconciliations and journal entries as required.
- Manage POS credit card terminals.
- **Payroll**
- Possess strong knowledge of payroll processing.
- Work with Payroll administrator to manage monthly payroll and source deduction compliance.
- **Purchasing**
- Process day to day purchases of classroom and office supplies as necessary.
- Respond to purchase requests from other departments.
- Manage various contracts for leased equipment.
- **Planning**
- Identify areas for potential cost savings.
- Review and upgrade accounting policies and procedures.
- Review and upgrade accounting software and systems.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Ability to provide financial reporting and analysis to guide decision making
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of various financial matters.
- Previous experience working in a school setting an asset.
- Knowledge of Sage Business Vision an asset.
- Expertise in other financial software.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- CPA or equivalent
- 5+ years of relevant experience
