It is comprised of two teams: Network Services ensures the operational effectiveness of the campus data and voice communications networks and their connections to external networks, as well as Internet and research networks through BCNET, and public telephone networks; Data Centre Services manages the enterprise servers, storage and data centre infrastructure._

**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $80,673- $88,956** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $104,939** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job Summary**Mandate**:
The Network Analyst reports to the Associate Director, Network Services (NETS) and receives technical leadership from Team Lead, Network Infrastructure. The Network Analyst works as part of a team that looks after all aspects of enterprise voice network systems, network management systems and network enterprise services. This includes design, planning, installation, configuration, support, security, monitoring, and performance tuning of University of Victoria's entire voice network: 32 network management systems which monitor and support the enterprise network: and Network enterprise services; DNS (Domain Name System), DHCP (Dynamic host configuration protocol).

**Objectives**:

- Perform complex operational duties and tasks that need independent judgement to resolve, often in high-pressure situations to maximize performance and minimize downtime.
- Participate in support and management of voice hardware and software, and network management tools suite technologies.
- Participate in tier 2 and tier 3 operational support of the UVic campus data and communications networks,
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of telecommunications, information systems, wireless and network security concepts, and technology.
- Exhibit a high level of problem-solving ability, originality, creativity, and resourcefulness when planning and implementing projects and solving optimization, performance, cybersecurity, and capacity related issues.
- Collaborate closely with the Information Security Office and other IT support staff on implementing solutions, educating clients. Related duties include security incident response, analysis, and reporting, assisting other units in cybersecurity.

Normal business hours are 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, system maintenance may be performed off-hours and major issues are responded to on a 24/7 basis. This position may be required to work outside of regular business hours on an emergency or prescheduled basis.
- Job RequirementsThis position requires an undergraduate degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant discipline plus a minimum of three years of experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

**Knowledge and experience requirements include**:

- In-depth experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting complex, enterprise class IP networks.
- QoS and Traffic Engineering (VOIP): 802.1p, classification and marking, congestion avoidance, congestion management, DSCP, IP SLA, rate limiting, traffic policing, traffic shaping, videoconferencing and VOIP specific QoS provisioning.
- Software development experience of Network Management tools, including Unix/Linux, Windows, scripting tools, database design, and web development. Primary languages used are python, perl and sql (both MySQL and Oracle), other helpful knowledge would be revision control (git/subversion), bash/shell and javascript.
- Advanced knowledge of authentication integration such as LDAP, CAS, Shibboleth, Active Directory.
- Knowledge of modern programming languages and frameworks; software testing procedures and frameworks; software revision control; modern technical architectures and configuration; supporting and maintaining enterprise software.
- Working with and demonstrated depth of knowledge in the following areas:
Routing and Switching: TCP/IP, 802.1D, 802.1Q, 802.1X, 802.3ad; HSRP, OSPF, BGP, BGP/MPLS, MP-BGP EVPN, VRF’s, policy routing, redistribution.
