**Position Description**:
Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding position where you can use your advanced knowledge of genetic disorders and research experience to provide genetic assessments and counseling for patients/families enrolled in a research protocol for whole genome sequencing (WGS)? **We are recruiting a research-focused Genetic Counsellor who will play an active role as a collaborator and co-investigator with the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research team. The Genetic Counsellor will report to the Director of Genetic Counselling.**

Your role will be dedicated to contributions to the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research Cardiac Genome Clinic and will provide key insight into the growth and development of this research program. You will be engaged in all aspects of the study, from project development to patient recruitment to the return of clinically relevant results. You will work with and be an integral part of a dynamic team of dedicated individuals including clinical geneticists, cardiologists, bioinformaticians, genome analysts and pharmacogenetics experts.

**Here’s What You’ll Get To Do**
- Work in consultation with Cardiac Genome Clinic investigators (SickKids, University Health Network (UHN) sites and Mount Sinai) to recruit patients and families with cardiac disease, assess their genomic data and return relevant research results
- Prepare, update, and amend research protocols and liaise with research ethics boards at SickKids, UHN and Mount Sinai
- Draft and update available documents (consent forms, educational materials, requisitions etc.), in consultation with Cardiac Genome Clinic investigators for appropriate use for WGS
- Liaise with and engage clinical cardiology colleagues to identify appropriate patient populations for recruitment into the Cardiac Genome Clinic
- Organize clinical assessment and facilitate deep phenotyping of patient/family with clinical geneticist and cardiologist
- Liaise with collaborators and team members to facilitate sample ascertainment and sequencing
- Organize and manage participants’ study measures and data entry
- Provide pre-test genetic/genomic counselling regarding WGS and obtain consent from participants who wish to pursue this testing
- Assess psychosocial issues and structure counselling session accordingly
- Review WGS test results with Cardiac Genome Clinic investigators and determine resulting plan of care
- Draft reports summarizing the results of research WGS
- Provide post-test disclosure of medically actionable primary and secondary genetic test results
- Assist the patient/family in understanding the test results and the potential for cascade testing for family members; provide follow up counselling as indicated
- As project co-investigator, lead in developing recommended protocols and revisions thereof to guide future transition of Cardiac Genome Clinic into clinical care from the research setting
- Serve as a research collaborator and liaison for SickKids, UHN and Mount Sinai Health Care practitioners regarding WGS
- Provide international leadership in genetic counselling services related to WGS by presenting experience in oral presentations and in publications in peer reviewed journals in collaboration with Cardiac Genome Clinic investigators
- Prepare future health leaders in state-of-the art clinical genetic knowledge via the master’s program and participate in teaching/supervisory opportunities in the University of Toronto/SickKids MSC Program in Genetic Counselling.
