BSG customizes services to the exact needs and locations of clients, ensuring that solutions meet precise specifications, including logistics, crew transfers, housekeeping, catering, and the fulfillment of all HSE requirements.

**The Opportunity**

The Chief Officer is a key leadership position on board. As the second-in-command to the Captain, the Chief Officer is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining a high standard of navigation and crew management. The Chief Officer's responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including navigation, safety management, cargo operations, and crew supervision.

**Key Responsibilities**

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
General Tasks:

- The Chief Officer supervises the deck crew and all activities executed by the deck department and is responsible for handling of cargo and ballast and for proper deck maintenance, including cargo spaces and ballast tanks.
- He shall assist the Master in all matters related to the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and is in an emergency the leader of all deck department efforts.
- To familiarize himself with navigation instruments regulations and safe work procedures pertaining to tasks assigned to him and/or to be executed under his responsibility.

Special Tasks:

- Personnel executing hazardous work are well informed of the work procedures to be adhered to.
- Hull, including cargo spaces, ballast tanks and superstructures are well maintained, retaining designed strengths.
- Handling deck equipment, cargo spaces, to ensure all are well maintained in functionally good order.
- Ensure all cargo transfers and ballasting are calculated, planned, executed and documented, with due considerations of stability, bending moments and shear forces.
- Execute cargo operations, tank cleaning / hold cleaning are executed in accordance with safe work procedures, in order to control hazards and avoid pollution of the environment.
- Preparation for arrival/departure, readiness for sea or arrival to port is ensured, verified and reported to the Master.
- Ensure the medicine locker is kept updated, that medicine and certificates are renewed when necessary, and that medical treatment is provided including preparing of doctor/dentist requisitions and/or illness reports.
- That the safe work procedures are modified if insufficient or faulty. Suggestions for improving the SMS are passed on to the Master for reporting to the Company.
- That the documentation are provided and processed, as required i.e.:

- Clean tank statement
- Ballast pumping log
- Garbage log
- Cargo calculations
- Permits to execute critical non-routine activities.
- Stability calculations
- Take active part in the Master review of the SMS.
- Keep radio watches at sea.
- Obtain weather forecasts with regular intervals and if in port prior to departure.
- Identification and monitoring of environmental performance targets for the operations.
- Chief Mate is a designated officer on board in charge of medical care.
- Chief Mate is designated as the person responsible for the garbage management.
- Take an active part in the safety culture on board.
