**Summary**
The Chrome Technician is responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and preparing parts for chroming and polishing of hydraulic cylinders while meeting the customer requirements and any applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. This position will obtain information such as job instructions from company documentation, the “traveller”, and will ensure that all work is complying with environmental, quality, health, and safety standards.
**Job Responsibilities & Duties**
- Chrome and strip OD and ID on workpieces of all sizes
- Pre-polish and finish polish hydraulic cylinder components
- Clean components in the caustic tank as required
- Clean caustic and chrome tanks as required while ensuring environmental regulations are followed
- Ensure proper disposal of waste products
- Complete appropriate checklists to ensure the rectifier is adjusted to correct polarity, amperage output, and there is no conductive shorting
- Complete all daily regulatory requirement checks as per the QHSE procedure
- Understand plating requirements for each workpiece
- Read and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine materials for the job and setup requirements
- Ensure proper solution temperature through the electronic thermostatic controller
- Mask areas of the cylinder that do not require chroming
- Maintain all consumables and equipment
- Assist in adding chemicals to the plating baths to ensure proper balances are maintained
- Analyze chrome and notify the manager/supervisor of any discrepancies
- Attach appropriate fixtures/jigs to workpieces
- Operate crane as required
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
**Skills/Qualifications**
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Experience working with hazardous chemicals and acids in a manufacturing chrome department
- Knowledge of environmental waste management
- Good understanding of electrical circuitry, positive/negative, anode/cathode placement, AC/DC power supplies, and rectifiers
- Crane certification
- Forklift certification
- Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Adaptable to changing work environments and competing demands with an ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
