JOHN ABBOTT COLLEGE IS SEEKING AN INDIGENOUS CANDIDATE WORKING UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE DEAN OF INDIGENOUS EDUCATION AND THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE INDIGENOUS STUDENT RESOURCE CENTRE COORDINATOR TO FILL THIS POSITION. THE RESOURCE CENTRE FACILITATOR WILL ORGANIZE ACTIVITIES AND PROVIDE SUPPORT TO INDIGENOUS STUDENTS IN ORDER TO PROMOTE THEIR TRANSITION.

**JOB SUMMARY**

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide service to Indigenous students
- Implement individual action plan for each student
- Support students in their learning and development
- Assist students with the organization of their academic courses
- Provide referrals to students for peer tutoring where appropriate
- Facilitate the students’ transition and integration to the college through the implementation of strategies and activities (time management, communication skills, healthy lifestyles, cultural adaptation, etc.)
- Participate in the delivery of orientation activities for Indigenous students
- Participate in the organization of college tours for potential students
- Collaborate with students and instructors as needed to assist the students in their academic progress.
- Promote the educational needs of Indigenous students within the college
- Collaborate with external and internal partners in delivery of events, workshops and other educational and cultural opportunities
- Publicize the services provided by the Indigenous Student Resource Centre (ISRC)
- Maintain individual records, data collection and write reports on students' status and progress
- Perform any other related tasks as may be assigned

**EDUCATION**
- College diploma (DEC) in an appropriate specialty (e.g., Social Sciences)

or
- a diploma or attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

**SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS**
- Knowledge about Indigenous cultures (intercultural communication skills, conflict resolution, etc.)
- Demonstrated understanding and cultural competence in regard to complex realities of Indigenous students
- Understanding of the CEGEP system, an asset
- Excellent human relations and communication skills
- Experience in public speaking, an asset
- Autonomous, ability to work with mínimal supervision
- English advanced, both oral and written
- French (basic) - oral
- Knowledge of traditional languages such as Inuit, Cree or Mohawk, an asset
- Microsoft word (Basic)
- Excel (Basic)
