**About You**

You yourself a people person and take pride in your ability to build understanding of unfamiliar operations. You have experience in creating training programs and can create Health and Safety/Claims programs from the ground up. You are knowledgeable in federal and provincial transportation regulations and most importantly, you want to effect change in the organization by continually improving what already exists in the Health & Safety/Claims program.

**The Job**

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Health and Safety/Claims Manager is responsible for the direction and facilitation of the Health and Safety/Claims Programs for all divisions.

**Responsibilities: Health and Safety Department**
- Maintain COR Certification and conduct internal audits as required.
- Perform incident investigations and ensure all investigations are carried out through to conclusion with recommendations and review.
- Manage damage claims.
- Actively manage and stay involved in all WCB claims, including return to work plans and modified duties as necessary. Working closely with Human Resources regarding WCB claims.
- Monitoring and auditing E-Logs for all drivers.
- Lead Safety meetings and actively participate in work planning processes.
- Provide input to aid in the identification and development of processes, standards, policies, procedures, and work practices for the work site.
- Work with the JHSC to ensure questions, concerns, and issues are addressed in a timely fashion.
- Monitor safety performance and support management in the development of corrective action plans to improve performance to meet and exceed goals.
- Complete required paperwork and documentation in a timely, neat, and organized fashion.
- Mentor and influence leadership and work teams to develop their safety essential skills and leadership competencies.
- Maintain driver training matrix and ensure record keeping of all training documents.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations.
- Maintains strong coordination, organization, and communication skills.
- Strong administrative background.
- Abide by all policies, procedures, rules, and applicable legislation.
- Develop key performance indicators and reporting to ensure we are addressing trends and insights.
- Lead Road Supervisor to ensure we are developing a safety driver culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Responsibilities: Claims Department**
- Develop effective working relationships with external clients, management, and all levels of the organization to ensure customer needs are met.
- Respond to lawyers’ and insurance company’s requests.
- Support legal proceedings regarding claims by providing supporting documentation, research, and reports. Occasionally attending hearings or court proceedings
- Review/Understand and maintain DCPD reports.
- Document and follow division policies and procedures, and actively seek enhancements and make recommendations for new processes to improve efficiencies.
- Evaluate and reconcile relevant information from sources such as appraisers, third party adjusters, contractors, and repair facilities in order to quantify losses.
- Authorize and issue payments related to the claims department.
- Conduct field investigations including taking statements and coordinating off-site inspections when needed.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities in an effective manner.
- Manage claims team; individually and in a team-oriented capacity.
- Mentor team members, cross-train, and plan, develop and organize policies and procedures for internal use and with regards to customers (i.e., drivers).
- Administratively, commission documents as required by various internal departments or customers.
- Develop key performance indicators and reporting to understand trends and insights.

**Qualifications and Competencies**:

- 2+ years of demonstrated success as a Health and Safety Professional.
- Preference given to one of the below certificates (NCSO minimum) - National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
- 5 + years safety experience in construction industry, preferences in heavy equipment or transportation.
- Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
- Occupational Health & Safety System building
- Experience with COR audit certification
- HSSB - Health & Safety system building
- Carrier profiles
- Hours of service/Elogs
- Knowledge of the OH&S Act, regulations, and industry best practices
- Knowledge of OSCAM Permitting and Traffic Accommodation
- Experience conducting orientation and training.
