The Township of Georgian Bay is a growing water-based community located in the District of Muskoka along the eastern shore of beautiful Georgian Bay. We have a multitude of inland lakes, are a gateway to the world-famous 30,000 Islands and the access point to Georgian Bay Islands National Park. Steeped in history, our cultural roots are an important part of our community.
The Township has a permanent resident population of approximately 3,500 and an additional seasonal population of around 17,500. The municipal office is located in Port Severn which is a short commute from Barrie, Midland, Orillia, Parry Sound, and surrounding areas.
**Overview**:We are looking for a Recreation Labourer to join our team. Reporting to the Supervisor of Parks and Facilities, the Recreation Labourer will provide regular and seasonal maintenance and upkeep of all Township owned grounds, facilities, and properties. This position assists in offering a safe and clean environment for staff and the public.
**Duties include but are not limited to**:
- Ensure that facilities are clean, presentable, and safe for public use, including transporting equipment/furniture, removal of garbage/debris, and monitoring the HVAC system.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and park infrastructure.
- Installation and maintenance of parks horticulture. Ensure that grounds and properties owned by the Township are presentable, safe, and properly maintained. This involves the use of various pieces of equipment (mowers, trimmers, tillers, tractors, etc.).
- Perform regular playground inspections and maintain the splash pad.
- Review rental contracts with facility user groups and communicate applicable policies such as alcohol and key-holder policies. Handle billing and payments for functions.
- Maintain a full-service artificial ice rink including the operation of the ice re-surfacer, edger, and propane exchanges. Perform all ice maintenance including painting and making ice and conducting board and glass inspections and repairs.
- Monitor the refrigeration plant and perform minor maintenance in accordance with Emergency Ammonia Plant Operations guidelines.
- Conduct snow removal and salting of ice at all facility entrances, walkways, and emergency exits as well as around propane cylinders. This includes the operation of a snow blower and small pick-up truck with plow.
- Insert and remove docks in Township owned water access areas. Inspect and repair docks and ramps.
**Knowledge/experience**:
- Valid Ontario Drivers Licence and First Aid/CPR Certification. A Class DZ Drivers Licence would be considered an asset.
- Two (2) years’ experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to use small tools, lawn tractors, and other small equipment.
- Certified Ice Technician designation would be an asset as would experience operating an ice plant.
- Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Good computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
**Wage rate**:$27.34 to 29.86 per hour (2023 rate of pay), based on a 40-hour workweek.
The Township of Georgian Bay offers a competitive benefits and pension package, as well as 3-weeks of paid vacation to begin, with increases each year.
